Sunset Film Festival Vol.2: Celebrating Connections in West Izu

The beautiful coastal area of West Izu is set to host the second edition of the "Sunset Film Festival Vol.2" on October 3, 2026. This exciting event, organized by the Doih Tourism Promotion Company, a subsidiary of ARTH Corporation, aims to create new tourism content while revitalizing the community via the stunning backdrop of the setting sun and the starry sky.

Event Details

This year's festival will feature two film screenings, local gourmet markets, a stamp rally, and a performance stage, all designed to create joy and connections among attendees.

The Social Significance of the Festival

With the breathtaking Suruga Bay and its glorious sunsets, West Izu once flourished as a hub where locals and visitors shared their love for films. However, recent years have brought challenges such as declining population, an aging community, and fewer spaces for social interaction. The inaugural festival last year marked a significant revival of a once-popular tradition, generating smiles and bonding moments between locals and tourists under the beautiful twilight. The theme for this year's festival is "Weaving Together"—a commitment to not just creating a fleeting event, but fostering a lasting cultural legacy that connects the past and future while weaving together residents and visitors alike.

A Multi-Sensory Evening: Enjoying Through the Senses

This year's festival will enhance the experience through various activities that go beyond film screenings. Here's what to expect:

  • - Culinary Delights: A bustling market featuring local dining spots where attendees can savor the rich culinary offerings of Shizuoka.
  • - Performance Stage: Local kids' dancers and balloon performers will grace the stage, showcasing talent across generations.
  • - Art Installation: Local students will transform unused sheets into beautiful artwork, reflecting the unique nature and scenery of Doih, adding color to the festival.

Participants will enjoy a unique evening that showcases the charm of Doih through films, food, art, and human connections.

Crowdfunding Support: Co-Creation for the Future

To ensure the festival becomes a cultural fixture for future generations, a crowdfunding campaign is currently underway. All contributions will support expenses like safe and free venue setup. Supporters can receive rewards such as tickets for food on the festival day, commemorative items, dining or accommodation experiences at "LOQUAT Nishiiizu" and "Atarayo Nishiiizu," and a strawberry delivery from our own farm, "IZU ARTH FARM."

Crowdfunding Overview

"Creating what our region needs while remaining true to our roots." Thanks to strong support last year, we made a significant leap forward after almost 40 years. We hope to carry that spirit into this year and ask for your continued support!
