Hexagon Digital Wave and Certarus Forge Exclusive Agreement for Gas Transportation Services
Hexagon Digital Wave, a prominent subsidiary of Hexagon Composites, has recently entered into an exclusive, long-term agreement with Certarus, which stands as the North American leader in compressed gas transportation and distribution. This collaboration, effective from January 2025 through December 2027, aims at delivering specialized requalification services for Certarus' fleet of gas transportation trailers.
Under this partnership, Hexagon Digital Wave will implement its state-of-the-art Modal Acoustic Emission (MAE) technology to conduct in-situ requalification of the gas transport modules operated by Certarus. This advanced technological approach represents the pinnacle of testing and inspection for composite cylinders, significantly raising the benchmarks for safety and compliance standards within the sector.
One of the key advantages of utilizing the MAE technology is its capacity to enhance operational efficiency and minimize downtime required for maintenance and inspection procedures of the fleet. With testing being performed on-site, Certarus will experience smoother fleet operations and improved recertification timelines, making it a valuable asset for the business.
Natasha Cherednichenko, the President at Certarus, expressed her satisfaction with the collaboration, emphasizing the benefits gained from Hexagon Digital Wave’s MAE technology, particularly in streamlining the Mobile Storage Unit cylinder recertification process. She noted, “Their expertise and technology are helping our industry improve safety and compliance, and reduces downtime associated with other testing processes.”
Echoing these sentiments, Dr. Brian Burks, President at Hexagon Digital Wave, stated the company's pride in partnering with Certarus to support their mission of delivering clean energy solutions safely and efficiently. The use of MAE technology plays a crucial role in ensuring rigorous safety protocols are met, demonstrating Hexagon’s commitment to providing enhanced services to its customers.
As the market for alternative fuels expands, the demand for reliable and safe compressed gas transport has surged. This increase has prompted fleet owners to seek effective methods to requalify their composite tube trailers at required intervals, typically every five years. The advantages of the MAE technology in this regard cannot be overstated. This non-invasive testing method significantly reduces trailer downtime in comparison to the traditional hydrostatic testing methods, while also furnishing critical insights into the structural integrity of the composite laminate that hydrostatic tests fail to reveal.
Hexagon Digital Wave has successfully pioneered the implementation of MAE technology, with over 750 composite gas distribution trailers requalified across North America, underscoring their leadership in this domain. This milestone speaks volumes about their expertise and the effective solutions they offer in the field of non-destructive testing.
