Decabomart: A Unique Shopping Experience for a Sustainable Future
On July 25 and 26, 2026, Earth Hacks Inc. and V Point Marketing Inc. launched an innovative initiative named "Decabomart" at the TOKYO GX ACTION MUSEUM aimed at transforming shopping habits by directly engaging consumers with the environmental impact of their purchases. This project, rooted in consumer feedback and aimed at developing sustainable products and services, attracted over 1,700 participants in just two days.
The Concept of Decabomart
Decabomart introduced a novel experience where the CO2 emissions associated with products were converted into a tangible form—weight. This allowed consumers to understand the environmental burden of their choices in a more intuitive way, as they selected products with varying levels of carbon footprints. Upon choosing eco-friendly options, participants were rewarded with V points, thereby blending sustainable decision-making with tangible incentives.
Results and Insights
The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Surveys indicated that prior to the Decabomart trial, only 62.2% of attendees considered the environmental impact of their shopping. However, after their experience at Decabomart, a staggering 97.7% expressed a desire to be more mindful of environmental factors in future purchases.
Furthermore, nearly all participants recognized that different products have different CO2 emissions (99.5%) and found the method of depicting emissions as weight to be easy to understand (99.1%). This significant shift highlights the effectiveness of visualizing environmental impact in enhancing consumer awareness and purchase motivations.
The event revealed five crucial insights:
1.
Visibility: Making environmental values visible and accessible can encourage better consumer choices.
2.
Engagement: Fun, engaging methods of communication can deepen consumer connection to sustainability.
3.
Incentives: Reward systems like V points can be powerful tools for motivating eco-conscious decisions.
4.
Transformative Communication: Adapting corporate sustainability efforts into consumer experiences opens doors to new engagement strategies.
5.
Sustainable Practices: Integrating fun and educational elements in shopping can lay a foundation for sustainable purchasing habits.
Voices from Participants
Feedback collected from general attendees and corporate representatives showcased a shared enthusiasm for engaging in sustainable shopping practices. Many shared their excitement about how Decabomart influenced their understanding of environmental issues related to their purchases.
Future Directions
Moving forward, Earth Hacks and V Point Marketing aim to further explore the combinations of environmental visualization and point systems for creating enriching shopping experiences. There is a concerted effort to collaborate with municipalities, retail businesses, and manufacturers to foster environments where sustainable products naturally become the preferred choice among consumers.
By expanding the implementation of the Decabomart initiative, the partners are committed to developing strategies that seamlessly integrate sustainability into everyday shopping habits.
