Springtime Floral Festival at Nanokuni Mountain in Machida City, Tokyo

Nestled in the northwest part of Machida City, Tokyo, the seasonal charm of rapeseed flowers is on full display at Nanokuni Mountain this spring. Located near the Botanic Gardens and the Historic Farm Tools Museum, the vibrant yellow fields are a sight to behold. These flowers are cultivated by the Nanokuni Mountain Friendship Village Association, a group of local farmers dedicated to preserving agricultural landscapes while providing the community with beautiful scenery.

As you stroll through the fields, you can not only enjoy the beauty of the blossoms but also participate in unique agricultural activities. After admiring the flowers, visitors have the opportunity to harvest rapeseed seeds, known as "nanatane." Every third Saturday of the month, the Historic Farm Tools Museum hosts a rapeseed oil extraction demonstration and sale, allowing attendees to learn more about this process while purchasing fresh oil to take home.

Additionally, starting from April 1, there will be sales of soba (buckwheat noodles) made from the freshly harvested soba grown in autumn. The soba powder is derived from the buckwheat that was harvested last fall, ensuring freshness and quality in the local cuisine.

Blooming Period

The rapeseed flowers typically bloom from mid to late April, but be aware that the exact timing may vary depending on weather conditions. For updates, check the Machida City website or contact the Historic Farm Tools Museum directly at 042-736-8380.
