MYEG and Beitou IT Innovation Set Up a Flagship AI Lab

In a remarkable move reinforcing international collaboration, Malaysia's foremost digital services provider, MY E.G. Services Berhad (commonly referred to as MYEG), has announced a strategic partnership with Guangxi Beitou IT Innovation Technology Investment Group Co., Ltd.. This alliance is geared towards establishing the Malaysia-China AI Innovation and Cooperation Centre, known as the Flagship China-ASEAN AI Lab. The agreement was signed in the presence of distinguished officials including Mr. Lan Tianli, Governor of Guangxi, and YB Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, the Malaysian Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry.

This initiative is a significant leap forward in fulfilling the ambitions of both the Malaysian and Chinese governments to collaborate and advance artificial intelligence technologies. The lab will serve as a platform for synergistic efforts between leading AI enterprises across China and the ASEAN region, fostering the development of localized AI solutions and promoting cross-border applications.

Furthermore, the AI Lab will be hosted at Zetrix Tower, previously known as MYEG Tower, in Petaling Jaya. The facility will pivot around an integration of Blockchain, Generative AI, and robotics technologies. A distinctive feature of the lab will be its focus on customizing AI services to align with local cultural values, which is critical for acceptance and effectiveness in diverse markets.

One of the first services anticipated to launch from this collaboration will be the Mutual Recognition of National Digital IDs. This service aims to bridge the identification processes for citizens of both countries, allowing Malaysians to utilize their MyDigital ID for identity verification needs while in Guangxi. Contrastingly, this system will also facilitate Chinese nationals to authenticate their identities in Malaysia, enhancing the ease of interaction across borders in various sectors including tourism and finance.

Funding and Future Prospects

Supporting the success of this endeavor, the Guangxi provincial government has earmarked an investment fund of RMB10 billion to catalyze projects under the overarching China-ASEAN cooperation framework. Chairman Lai Shuiping of Beitou IT Innovation expressed pride in their role as a facilitator connecting Chinese AI resources, such as open-source language models, applications, and talent networks, with practical use cases across Malaysia and the wider ASEAN region. This initiative is poised to elevate productivity levels across involved sectors by capitalizing on advanced AI technologies.

MYEG’s managing director, TS Wong, echoed these sentiments by emphasizing the lab's potential to lead in the convergence of cutting-edge technologies, namely blockchain, robotics, and artificial intelligence. TS Wong highlighted that the establishment of this lab positions MYEG at the forefront of delivering state-of-the-art products and services that could redefine operational frameworks not just in Malaysia but throughout the ASEAN community.
