Launching Impression-Based Digital OOH Advertising at Osaka Station
LIVE BOARD, headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo, has recently announced an exciting addition to its advertising platform. Beginning September 28, 2026, the digital signage positioned at Osaka Station's East Square will connect to the LIVE BOARD marketplace. This development, managed by Hankyu Hanshin Marketing Solutions, marks a significant advance in outdoor advertising by incorporating impression data into the sales model.
The Digital Signage Installation
The digital signage, known as "Osaka Station East Square Digital Signage 40," consists of 40 screens installed on 10 pillars throughout the East Square. This location is crucial as it links several major transit stations, including Umeda and Nishiumeda stations on Osaka Metro, as well as major commercial facilities like Hankyu Umeda Main Store and Hanshin Umeda Main Store. Because of its prime location, the East Square is bustling with business professionals during weekday mornings and evenings, and filled with shoppers on weekends or during the day.
New Advertising Opportunities
With this new connection, traditional advertising methods will still be available. However, the introduction of impression-based (VAC) advertising, utilizing NTT Docomo's location data and analysis technologies, allows for selling ad space based not just on time slots but also on actual viewer estimates. This means advertisers can reach their target audience more effectively by understanding who is likely to see their ads at different times.
The VAC (Visibility Adjusted Contact) methodology, endorsed by the OOH Global Measurement Guidelines, combines both visibility rates and the number of people potentially exposed to the advertisement. Given the challenging conditions brought on by situations like the COVID-19 pandemic, this technology offers brands a more accurate depiction of audience size and engagement.
LIVE BOARD's Commitment to OOH
LIVE BOARD continues to advocate for the effective and efficient operation of Out-of-Home (OOH) advertising. By leveraging innovative technologies and data-driven strategies, the company is positioned for further growth within the OOH marketplace. The integration of various audience-triggered parameters makes it possible to adapt advertisements to fit diverse lifestyles and consumer behaviors.
As of now, LIVE BOARD operates over 61,500 screens across Japan, solidifying their status as a leader in the digital OOH space. These screens include not only their proprietary installations but also partnerships with other companies to expand their network.
Future Endeavors
In its pursuit of new value creation in the advertising landscape, LIVE BOARD aims to adapt to the evolving market conditions and consumer habits through innovative advertising solutions. With each technological advancement, they are setting new benchmarks for the industry, continually refining how brands connect with their audiences.
