Workshop Report: 'SAKISHIMA LIGHTING ART'
On April 26, 2025, the Osaka Prefectural Government hosted a unique workshop known as 'SAKISHIMA LIGHTING ART' aimed at young creators. This event took place at the Sakishima Cosmo Tower and included a briefing and hands-on session for participants under the age of 29.
The 'SAKISHIMA LIGHTING ART' is an exciting digital art initiative sponsored by the Osaka government, showcasing vibrant laser mapping on the north outer wall of the Sacishima Cosmo Tower. Participants of this project had the opportunity to create laser mapping artworks, and the workshop facilitated a space for creative exploration, where 11 teams comprising 19 individuals registered to participate.
This workshop provided invaluable training led by industry professionals, allowing the up-and-coming generation of visual artists to gain practical experience. The workshop not only covered the fundamentals of laser mapping but also fostered creativity through collaboration with seasoned artists. As a participant commented, "Seeing other people's works and learning about the professional mindset was incredibly enjoyable. I was grateful for the chance to see how laser mapping translates visually, which helped me learn a lot."
Entries for the public call for submissions are open until June 1st, 2025. Those who apply will also gain access to an archive of the workshop to deepen their understanding of the creative process.

Workshop Outcomes
One of the significant aspects of this initiative is its focus on skill application rather than simply serving as a visual competition. Participating creators are provided with a free entry to the foundational laser mapping workshop (MadLaser Basics). Although the workshop has concluded, future entrants will have the advantage of viewing the archived materials, which can enhance their submissions significantly.
Selected works stand a chance to be projected on the actual building facade of the Sakishima Cosmo Tower, bringing the participants' concepts to life.
