Hiraga Inc. Selected for a Food Loss Reduction Initiative
On June 6, 2025, Hiraga Inc. This program aims to implement consumer campaigns at retail locations, particularly in the Kansai region, with the goal of minimizing food loss. Additionally, Hiraga will create and distribute informational materials and notices at retail locations to stimulate changes in consumer behavior.
Background and Purpose of the Initiative
According to estimates from the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Japan generated approximately 4.72 million tons of food waste in FY2022. Of this, around 2.36 million tons stemmed from business-related food waste. The government has set a new target to reduce business-related food waste by 60% by FY2030 compared to the figures from the year 2000, aiming for a reduction of 2.19 million tons. This necessitates additional measures to further diminish waste.
