HUAWEI XMAGE Awards 2024: A Celebration of Photography
On November 27, 2024, the
HUAWEI XMAGE Awards Ceremony and Annual Exhibition was held at the
Shenzhen Sea World Culture and Art Center. This year’s theme, “A Heartwarming World,” gathered a multitude of photographers, media representatives, award winners, creators, and enthusiasts who eagerly awaited the announcement of the competition's winners.
During the ceremony, He Gang, CEO of HUAWEI Consumer Business Group, expressed heartfelt congratulations to the winners and paid tribute to the creators of the mobile imaging era. He emphasized the transformative role of HUAWEI XMAGE, stating that it goes beyond merely capturing life; it serves as a bridge for emotional communication among people.
A Global Stage for Talented Photographers
The
XMAGE Awards, established in 2017, has become one of the most influential mobile imaging events globally. Over its eight years, it has attracted nearly
5 million entries from over
170 countries and regions. This year, over
650,000 submissions were received within
86 countries, indicating an impressive growth in participation, particularly from regions such as
Malaysia, Turkey, the Philippines, UAE, and
Saudi Arabia.
The ceremony awarded a total of
66 prizes, which included
3 Grand Awards, 18 Category Winners, 38 Second Prizes, and various other accolades. These photographs, celebrated for their diverse perspectives and expressions, convey warmth, tranquility, and brightness, capturing the raw emotions and strengths of ordinary individuals.
Top Winners of the Year
Among the distinguished winners,
Chen Yong from China,
Justin Mendoza from the Philippines, and
Kinga Choińska from Poland were awarded the Grand Prize and each received a
$10,000 Huawei Creation Fund award. Their works presented enchanting moments in life, portrayed with unmatched imagination and creativity.
Judges, including notable photographers, shared their insights on the awarded pieces:
- - Chen Xiaobo, Vice President of the Chinese Photographers Association, described a photograph of a girl climbing stairs as a symbol of strength, movement, and beauty.
- - Keith Ladzinski, a National Geographic photographer, noted the humor and scale in another photograph, highlighting its thoughtful composition and unique low perspective.
- - Fashion photographer James Perolls praised the warm tones and harmonious elements in a winning image, which beautifully captured a moment of serenity between sisters, reminding us of the small yet significant connections that bind us.

The exhibition featured over
300 exceptional works, divided into seven thematic sections such as “Moments,” “Faces,” and “Hello Life,” encouraging visitors to explore the infinite charm of photography. Running from
November 27 to 30, this visual feast invites art lovers to witness the competition's highlights while experiencing the emotions and stories behind each frame firsthand.
