Taisho University Partners with Fujieda City
On November 11, 2025, a collaboration agreement was established between Taisho University and Fujieda City, Shizuoka Prefecture. This agreement will pave the way for the construction of the "Taisho University Satellite Fujieda Incubation Center," slated to be located on the second floor of the Fujieda Station redevelopment building, which is expected to be completed by June 2027.
Taisho University, located in Toshima Ward, Tokyo, has been actively involved with Fujieda City, focusing on providing students opportunities to interact with the local community through practical placements, thereby contributing to the cultivation of local talent and the development of the regional society. This new agreement will help them take their collaboration to the next level, marking the beginning of a new chapter starting in 2027.
Objectives of the Incubation Center
The Incubation Center will serve as a crucial hub for promoting startup creation and development, leveraging the strengths of Taisho University in nurturing community-oriented human resources and Fujieda City's unique local assets.
Furthermore, the center will be utilized as a field for Project-Based Learning (PBL) for the Department of Information Science, which is set to open in April 2026. This innovative approach will foster problem-solving skills among students, preparing them to address real-world challenges.
New Developments
Taisho University's establishment of the Department of Information Science marks a significant milestone as it represents the university's first science-based faculty since its founding in 1926. The new department will be composed of two programs: Green Digital Information and Digital Cultural Heritage Information. Students will not only acquire specialized knowledge and practical skills in information science but will also develop a broad understanding and high ethical standards. By working together with individuals from diverse backgrounds, students will gain the holistic capabilities required to design a future society, effectively using information technology to resolve societal issues and create new value.
The collaboration with Fujieda City encompasses several key elements:
1.
Education and Cultural Promotion - Development of a facility that supports startup generation and enhancing community businesses.
2.
Community Development - Utilizing digital technologies to foster sustainable societal advancements and improve well-being.
3.
Human Resource Development - Encouraging student involvement in fieldwork and local business participation to facilitate talent circulation.
4.
Resource Sharing - Contributing the university's research findings and educational capabilities back to the local community.
5.
Mutual Collaboration - Addressing additional areas where collaboration is deemed necessary.
The Signing Ceremony
The signing event for the agreement will take place on November 11, 2025, from 14:30 to 15:00 at the Special Conference Room, 3rd Floor, West Building, Fujieda City Hall. The ceremony will be attended by officials from both Taisho University and Fujieda City, fostering a commitment to mutual development.
About Taisho University
Founded in 1926, Taisho University operates under the collaborative efforts of four Buddhist sects: Tendai, Shingon, Jodo, and Jishu. Its guiding philosophy is "the practice of wisdom and compassion," a concept rooted in Buddhist teachings exemplified by the Bodhisattva ideal—individuals dedicated to personal enlightenment and the salvation of others. This foundation informs the university’s vision of nurturing students who embody compassion, self-awareness, the middle path, and coexistence. As Taisho University approaches its centennial in 2026, it views this milestone as an opportunity for a 'second founding,' propelling further educational advancements and research activities.
