BELLUSTAR TOKYO Joins Clean the World® Soap Recycling Initiative for Sustainability

BELLUSTAR TOKYO and Clean the World®: A Step Towards a Sustainable Future

BELLUSTAR TOKYO, A Pan Pacific Hotel, located in the heart of Shinjuku, Tokyo, has taken a significant leap towards sustainability by participating in the Clean the World® soap recycling program. Under the leadership of General Manager Katsushi Nishikawa, the hotel successfully conducted its first soap collection on March 31, 2025. This initiative is a part of a broader effort to minimize waste in the hospitality industry, particularly focusing on the recycling of used soap bars by hotel guests.

Clean the World® is an American social enterprise dedicated to improving hygiene standards globally. The organization collaborates with various hotels to collect discarded soap and toiletries, which are then recycled into new hygiene products and distributed to communities in need. Since its inception in 2009, Clean the World has distributed over 70 million soap bars across 127 countries, significantly contributing to public health improvements in underprivileged areas.

In Asia, BELLUSTAR TOKYO is partnering with Clean the World Asia, which boasts collaborations with 89 hotels across five regions: Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, and Taiwan. Since 2014, this initiative has successfully recycled over 537 tons of soap, providing more than 4 million soap bars to charitable organizations throughout Asia.

The First Collection

During the initial collection, BELLUSTAR TOKYO gathered three cartons of used soap from guests, which would have otherwise been discarded. These soaps are now on their way to a recycling factory in Hong Kong, where they will be transformed into new soap products. This not only helps in reducing waste but also aids in the hygiene improvement efforts of Clean the World®.

Commitment to Sustainability

BELLUSTAR TOKYO has a strong commitment to sustainable practices. The hotel has previously implemented several eco-friendly initiatives, including a circular recycling system called "BEAUTYCLE," which focuses on bottle-to-bottle reuse for guest room amenities. Additionally, they have creatively upcycled cherry blossom branches and flowers used in hotel decor into new products, aligning with their vision of becoming an environmentally friendly hotel.

The participation in the Clean the World® program further emphasizes BELLUSTAR TOKYO's dedication to creating a sustainable community while contributing positively to global efforts aimed at promoting hygiene and environmental responsibility. The hotel's goals coincide perfectly with the vision outlined by Tokyu Hotels, aiming for an establishment that is friendly to the earth, local communities, and humanity.

Clean the World® Impact in Asia

The Clean the World Asia program is making strides in its mission to salvage unused soaps and other amenities from hotels. Their extensive network has enabled them to deliver significant quantities of hygiene products to those in desperate need. Most notably, a large percentage of the distributed soap and hygiene kits have reached children and families affected by calamities in the Philippines, demonstrating the quintessential humanitarian aspect of the initiative.
