Introducing Unique Collaboration Towels at Jozankei Shikanoyu with Kamawanu

Exciting Collaboration of Hand Towels by Shikanoyu and Kamawanu

Jozankei Shikanoyu, established in 1897, is the oldest inn still operating in Jozankei, and it has made a splash by collaborating with the specialized hand towel store Kamawanu. Set to launch on December 27, this exclusive collaboration will be available for purchase both at the Shikanoyu retail shop and through the official online store.

In Japan, hand towels, or "tenugui," are much more than practical items; they embody cultural significance. The unique combination of diverse colors and patterns, tailored to seasons, adds an aesthetic appeal while providing excellent portability, quick drying, and exceptional durability.

An essential feature of this hand towel is its unique dyeing technique, known as "Chusen," aJapanese traditional method that has been refined since the Meiji era. This technique allows for gradual color fading that beautifully enhances the towel's texture over time, producing a characteristic feel that evolves with each use. Customers are encouraged to relish the unfolding texture journey as they further integrate these towels into their daily lives.

Unique Design Patterns

Hanjie Pattern

The first design, called the "Hanjie pattern," incorporates Kamawanu’s emblematic motifs. By creatively merging the agricultural tool "kama" with circles and the hiragana character "nu," the towel presents a playful yet traditional representation of Kamawanu’s brand, applied creatively with Shikanoyu’s own name. Alternating between Hanjie art and kanji further emphasizes the beauty of traditional Japanese culture.

Yukata Pattern

The second offering is a "Yukata pattern" inspired by the beloved checkered design that has been cherished by visitors for over 50 years. Featuring illustrations of deer and the original logo, this towel serves as a perfect memento for guests who stay at the inn. Customers can choose from two vibrant color options: navy and red.
