Denver Advances as a Finalist for the 2030 Gay Games
On December 5, 2024, the Federation of Gay Games (FGG) declared Denver as one of three finalists to host the upcoming 2030 Gay Games. This prestigious event, which gathers athletes and participants from the LGBTQ+ community around the globe, could be hosted in the Mile High City, competing directly with Perth, Australia, and Auckland, New Zealand. The selection is a substantial acknowledgment of the city's commitment to inclusivity and its vibrant culture.
The journey leading to this announcement has been marked by rigorous efforts from the Gay Games Denver 2030 Bid Committee (GGDEN). In collaboration with Visit Denver, the committee has worked extensively over the past year to prepare a bid that emphasizes Denver's unique appeal. The proposed lineup of sporting and cultural events aims to showcase the city's stunning surroundings while ensuring that the Games are accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or athletic ability.
Highlighting the hard work and dedication of city officials, community leaders, and LGBTQ+ representatives, Richard Scharf, the President and CEO of VISIT DENVER, expressed excitement over this significant achievement. He noted, “Denver’s rich culture, diverse dining options, and outdoor access make it an ideal location for the Games.
