Seikatsu Club's Shonai Local SDGs Wins Newsweek Japan SDGs Award 2025
In a significant recognition for environmental sustainability, the Seikatsu Club Cooperative Union has announced that its initiative, the "Shonai Local SDGs," has won the regional challenge category of the Newsweek Japan SDGs Award 2025. The award ceremony was held on March 16, 2026, at the American Club in Tokyo, where Eri Yamamoto, Executive Director of the Seikatsu Club, delivered an inspiring acceptance speech.
The Shonai Local SDGs initiative has been instrumental in promoting sustainable community development in the Shonai region of Yamagata Prefecture. Since the early 20th century, this region has faced significant challenges, including an aging producer population and a shortage of successors.
