Reviving the Community Through Renewable Energy: Iitate Power's Virtual Tour
On November 29, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:45 PM,
Pal System Tokyo will conduct an online virtual tour introducing
Iitate Power Co., Ltd.. With headquarters in Shinjuku, Tokyo, and led by director Yoko Nishimura, this event aims to showcase the company’s role in generating renewable energy in the region affected by the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster 14 years ago.
A Journey towards Recovery
This virtual tour will not only highlight the impact of the nuclear accident that led to the complete evacuation of Iitate Village but will also celebrate the continuing restoration efforts. As the region approaches the 15-year mark since the disaster, the tour will serve as a reminder of the ongoing effects and the importance of promoting renewable energy initiatives in these affected areas. Participants will be encouraged to think about ways they can contribute to the revival of this community.
Iitate Power currently operates 50 small-scale solar power facilities within Iitate Village, producing energy sustainably. Established in 2014 by five enthusiastic locals, including residents of Iitate, the company has actively reached out to gather investments from the community, utilizing local resources to boost renewable energy production. Revenue generated from selling electricity is reinvested into creating jobs and supporting local initiatives such as fostering traditional beef cattle farming and creating solar-sharing agricultural practices.
Through these efforts, Iitate Power aims to restore both dignity and independence to the community, presenting a model for how clean energy can help in local development efforts. Their journey will show how consumers can support community building through their energy choices, connecting them to the broader movement of sustainable energy use.
