Join the Tokyo Open Para Sports Competition!

Tokyo is hosting the Open Sports Competition, emphasizing inclusivity in para sports regardless of disabilities.
This year, the event will leverage the Tokyo Ocean Forest Aquathlon, organized by the Tokyo Triathlon Association, creating a space for everyone to compete together.

The aquathlon event will take place on July 13, 2025, at the Ocean Forest Water Sports Center in Koto City. The competition is scheduled to run from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This aquathlon consists of a 100m swim followed by a 1km run, which can be tackled either individually or in teams. Teams can consist of two members who will take turns between swimming and running, adding a dimension of teamwork to the race.

Anyone who meets the following criteria is eligible to participate:
1. Must reside, work, or study in Tokyo.
2. Must be at least a junior high school student as of April 1, 2025.
3. Participants in the swimming segment must have the ability to swim 400m continuously.
Those opting for the running segment only are exempt from the swimming requirement.
Participants with disabilities are encouraged to join, and adaptive methods for participation, like using a lifestyle wheelchair, are welcomed.

All participants must wear a wetsuit, which can be rented for those without their own. The competition distance may change based on water and air temperature conditions.

What is an Aquathlon?

Aquathlon is a combination of swimming and running, similar to a triathlon but without cycling. The only equipment needed are a swimsuit, goggles, and running gear, making it easy for anyone to get started. It combines two types of aerobic exercises, providing a balanced workout.
