Experience Traditional Kabuki Culture: Unique Day Tour for Kids in Tokyo

Immerse in Kabuki: A Unique Experience for Kids

On March 8, 2026, Plus One Education, a subsidiary of Riso Education Group based in Toshima, Tokyo, is excited to host a day trip titled "Kabuki & Kumadori Experience Tour: Transform and Act!" This event invites children and their families to dive into the mesmerizing world of Japanese traditional performing arts known as Kabuki.

Discovering Kabuki Through Hands-On Experience

Kabuki has been a significant aspect of Japanese culture, renowned for its elaborate makeup, vibrant costumes, and exceptional performances. This tour is designed not merely for viewing but for engaging with the art form. Participants will learn about the backgrounds of Kabuki and its unique methods of expression through various hands-on activities. Children will try their hands at Kabuki makeup—Kumadori—which involves colorful designs that represent different character attributes. This experiential learning will spark curiosity about the meanings behind the colors and patterns used in this ancient art form, making Japanese culture more approachable and relatable.

Challenging Kabuki Movements for Enthusiastic Kids

In this unique experience, instructors will guide children through the fundamentals of Kabuki performance, emphasizing posture and movement, particularly the vigorous fighting scenes known as "tachiwaki." The curriculum is tailored to beginners, ensuring children can easily grasp the basics, regardless of prior experience. Participants will engage in dramatic movements, employing rhythm to embody the energetic intensity of Kabuki. This not only enriches their understanding of performance but also fosters confidence and a sense of personal expression.

Fueling Passion for Learning Through Fun

By immersing themselves in the art of Kabuki, children will inevitably develop inquiries such as "What does this movement signify?" or "Why is this color used?" Such questions stem from the interactive activities that cannot be replicated through passive observation. Rather, hands-on experiences offer profound insights and ignite a desire for further exploration. This day will serve as a delightful introduction to the complexities of traditional Japanese culture and expression.
