Therme Group Expands Well-being Portfolio with Acquisition of Josef Wund Destinations

Therme Group Strengthens Wellness Presence with New Acquisition

In a significant move for the global wellness sector, Therme Group, a leading developer and operator of well-being infrastructures, has announced the acquisition of three renowned wellness destinations from the Josef Wund Foundation. This acquisition, made through Therme Horizon, the joint venture between Therme Group and CVC Capital Partners, integrates Euskirchen, Sinsheim, and Titisee-Neustadt into the ever-growing ecosystem of Therme facilities.

Therme Group's recent activities are part of a broader strategy to redefine wellness experiences worldwide. With this acquisition, they bring the complete portfolio of Wund into their operating framework, complementing their already prominent Therme Erding destination acquired in 2024. This expansion not only enhances Therme's offerings but also solidifies its leadership position in the wellness sector, now managing five destinations that cater to 5.3 million visitors annually.

Founded by Dr. Robert Hanea, Therme Group has been a pioneer in establishing next-generation wellness destinations characterized by their unique approaches that merge nature with urban life. The integration of these Wund locations marks a significant milestone, not just for the company, but also in honoring the legacy of Josef Wund, who envisioned a holistic approach to well-being through exceptional service and distinctive architecture at these sites.

As stated by Dr. Hanea, "This moment is deeply personal for me. The partnership and friendship I have shared with Josef Wund and his family span over twenty years. I am grateful for the trust placed in Therme Group to guide these destinations into their next chapter. With the four locations now under our care, we will continue to evolve their offerings to honor their origins while attracting new audiences. Our commitment is to create spaces that bring joy, connection, and transformative well-being infrastructure to the communities they serve and the numerous people who will now discover these remarkable German destinations."

The newly acquired sites will contribute to Therme's ambitious plans of expanding its global footprint in wellness. As part of their strategy, Therme aims to innovate in areas such as sustainable engineering, water technology, experiential wellness, nature-based design, and cultural programming. This broadened portfolio not only helps fulfill their mission of promoting well-being on a larger scale but also creates numerous opportunities for innovation and community engagement.

Christoph Palm, President of the Josef Wund Foundation, added, "With this step, we safeguard a crucial part of our founder's life work. Simultaneously, our Foundation will maintain strong ties to the communities served by these destinations."

István Szőke from CVC Capital Partners remarked, "The consolidation of Wund destinations under Therme Horizon is a significant milestone. It ensures the continuation of exceptional complementary portfolio development, while preserving a unique entrepreneurial legacy. We are proud to support Therme Group in pursuing Josef Wund's vision. As a long-term partner, CVC will assist Therme Horizon in unlocking its full potential and setting new standards in sustainable and innovative wellness infrastructures."

Therme Group has long believed that well-being should be accessible to all. Their world-renowned destinations, including Therme Bucharest—the first LEED Platinum certified wellness destination—and Therme Erding, collectively welcome over 3.5 million visitors annually. As they continue to push the envelope with new developments in cities such as Manchester, Frankfurt, Toronto, Washington, Dallas, and Dubai, the company remains committed to transforming how well-being is integrated into urban life, reconnecting communities with nature, themselves, and one another.

As the wellness sector evolves, Therme Group stands resilient as a trailblazer, committed to offering innovative and accessible well-being experiences that can positively impact individuals and communities on a global scale.
