The University of Bridgeport (UB) is preparing for a momentous occasion on May 3, 2025, as it hosts its commencement ceremonies at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater located in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This year’s event will be graced by exceptional speakers, drawing attention from both the local community and beyond.

Keynote Speakers



As part of the undergraduate ceremony, Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James Jr. will take the stage as the keynote speaker. James, who will also receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, is renowned not just for his dynamic performance on the field but also for his commitment to community outreach. His efforts in supporting underserved communities and advocating for mental and physical wellness resonate deeply, making him an impactful figure for aspiring graduates. This ceremony marks his first ever commencement address, making it a significant milestone in his career.

The undergraduate ceremony will kick off at 10 a.m., where James will provide inspiration and advice to the graduating class. Joining him will be Ishmael A. Mensah, a Dental Hygiene major and a first-generation college student who immigrated from Ghana. Ishmael's journey from an elementary school teacher to an aspiring dental professional embodies UB’s mission of perseverance and purpose, reflecting the diverse experiences and backgrounds of its student body.

Graduate Ceremony Highlights



In the afternoon, the graduate ceremony is set to commence at 3 p.m., featuring Robert Patricelli, a distinguished healthcare executive known for his leadership roles in prominent organizations such as CIGNA and Women’s Health USA. He will also be recognized with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, celebrating his significant contributions to the field of healthcare and commitment to public service. Alongside him will be his wife, Margaret Patricelli, who will be honored for her philanthropic work, particularly through their family foundation focused on community development and educational initiatives.

Margaret has taken an active role in various projects, including supporting Shining Hope for Communities in Kenya, demonstrating a shared vision in advancing healthcare and educational opportunities globally.

Representing the graduate students will be Mirna Boktor, a Doctor of Health Sciences graduate. With a blend of scientific research, business acumen, and health advocacy, she is set to unveil a unique business plan aimed at fostering professional development opportunities that emphasize holistic health practices.
