Major Development at Frederick Municipal Airport
On June 22, 2026, High Flying Hangars marked a significant milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony for a development at the Frederick Municipal Airport in Maryland. This event was attended by prominent figures including Frederick City Mayor Michael O'Connor and several local dignitaries, showcasing the collaboration between government and business leaders aiming to enhance the aviation infrastructure in the region.
High Flying Hangars' project addresses a pressing need in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, where demand for hangar space has surpassed existing supply. This new development represents the first construction of hangars at the Frederick airport in over two decades, promising to meet the growing aviation needs of the area.
Airport Manager Andrew Moore expressed optimism about the project, stating that the development aligns with the airport’s vision as a key access point for the Maryland and northern D.C. region. The new hangars will play a vital role in accommodating growing aviation activities, as the area experiences an influx of new businesses and families, solidifying Frederick's position as a community on the rise.

The ambitiously planned development spans 11.45 acres and will be executed in two phases. The first phase will include the construction of 44 hangars, while an additional 34 will be developed in the second phase. A central feature of this initiative is the Hangar Club, which will not only serve as a meeting place but also provide essential amenities such as restrooms, a commercial-grade kitchen, and a sky deck for optimal flight viewing.
Prospective owners can find detailed design plans and early reservation options on the High Flying Hangars website. The available hangars range in size, accommodating various aviation needs: 1,245 sq ft (41.5 ft by 30 ft), 2,000 sq ft (50 ft by 40 ft), 3,600 sq ft (60 ft by 60 ft), 4,200 sq ft (70 ft by 60 ft), and 8,000 sq ft (100 ft by 80 ft). Each hangar is equipped with innovative features, including Diamond Bi-Fold Doors, Smart Door technology for enhanced security, and high-speed Internet access.
For larger units (2,000 sq ft and above), additional conveniences such as in-unit bathrooms, frost-free hose bibs, and specialized drainage will be included, all within a robust package featuring LED lighting, fully insulated steel construction, and polished concrete floors.
Kenny Hinkes, the CEO of High Flying Hangars, emphasized the significance of this development for both the local community and the company itself, highlighting how it mirrors Frederick’s growth and potential. As the fastest-growing city in Maryland, Frederick stands poised to become a hub for aviation, supported by this new infrastructure.
The groundbreaking ceremony served not only as a celebration of new beginnings but also as a testament to the collaborative spirit between local leadership and businesses committed to fostering growth and innovation in the region. The development of High Flying Hangars is expected to nurture both economic and community expansion by attracting new aviators and supporting existing ones within the Frederick Municipal Airport ecosystem.
