Genesis Logistics Workers Secure Their First Collective Bargaining Agreement
In a landmark decision, over 500 drivers and warehouse workers from
Genesis Logistics, a subsidiary of
DHL, have overwhelmingly voted to ratify their first-ever contract with the
Teamsters union. This major achievement, finalized on March 9, 2026, marks a significant milestone for the employees, who are now set to see improvements in wages, benefits, and overall working conditions.
Matthew Relford, a driver with Genesis Logistics and a member of Teamsters Local 322, expressed his excitement saying, "Winning our first Teamsters contract symbolizes a commitment to stability, dignity, and a promise for a better future. This agreement reflects fair wages, genuine benefits, and the strength we gain from unity. As Teamsters, we are on a path to building a better tomorrow together."
The journey towards this agreement began last year when drivers at the Stafford facility overwhelmingly voted to unionize, achieving a remarkable 90 percent support for joining the Teamsters. This significant campaign not only built momentum for drivers but also inspired warehouse employees to push for union representation. Ultimately, management at Genesis Logistics willingly recognized Local 639 through a card-check agreement, paving the way for negotiations.
According to Amanda Pallant, a warehouse worker and member of Local 639, the new contract lays a solid foundation for future improvements. "Our first contract is just the beginning. Together with our driving colleagues, we have secured guaranteed wage increases, protections against arbitrary discipline, and enforceable rights at our workplace. Most importantly, this process has united us across different job roles, enhancing our solidarity."
Genesis Logistics plays a crucial role in the distribution of pre-packaged food and various products for
7-Eleven, making its Stafford distribution center vital for convenience stores across the Mid-Atlantic. The successful ratification of this contract means that the Stafford facility is now fully represented by the Teamsters, solidifying its commitment to worker rights.
Bill Davis, the President of Local 639, praised the commitment shown by the workers, stating, "These employees faced many challenges to achieve this moment, and their unwavering determination was crucial in making this agreement a reality. We are proud to have secured strong first contracts for our newest members, and we look forward to leveraging this momentum to improve labor standards throughout the industry."
Founded in 1903, the
International Brotherhood of Teamsters has been a steadfast advocate for the rights of workers, representing around 1.3 million individuals across the
U.S.,
Canada, and
Puerto Rico. The achievements at Genesis Logistics highlight the vital role of organized labor in promoting fairness and empowerment in the workplace.
