New Insights on Agentic AI from Collibra's Latest Survey
Collibra, a frontrunner in unified data governance and AI solutions, has recently disclosed intriguing results from a new survey conducted by Harris Poll, highlighting the confidence among tech decision makers regarding agentic AI's potential to deliver significant returns on investment (ROI).
According to the survey of over 300 U.S. adults employed full-time as data management, privacy, or AI decision makers, an impressive 86% expressed confidence that agentic AI will generate adequate ROI for their organizations. This survey sheds light on the growing optimism within the tech community about the innovations and governance strategies associated with agentic AI, with similar levels of confidence recorded in innovation (85%) and governance (84%).
The Rise of Agentic AI
As organizations increasingly adopt agentic AI, the survey revealed that approximately 91% of tech leaders indicated their firms are currently developing or implementing agentic AI solutions. However, it's important to note that most are still in the nascent stages of this exciting technological journey. Stijn Christiaens, Chief Data Citizen at Collibra, noted, "Agentic AI represents the future of our industry. It is significant enough that I foresee my role evolving into that of a Chief AI Officer within the year. The current momentum and budget allocations for AI technology are unprecedented."
The predictions align with Gartner's research, which suggests that by 2028, a substantial 33% of enterprise software applications will incorporate agentic AI. This shift is set to elevate productivity while enhancing human agency within various sectors, particularly in software development. Gartner anticipates that 75% of enterprise software engineers will utilize AI code assistants within the next five years, reinforcing the sentiment shared by decision-makers worldwide.
Leading the Charge
Interestingly, three out of four decision makers (75%) identified IT and software as the pioneering industries successfully integrating agentic AI, making it the only sector to achieve majority consensus. The survey also examined implementation strategies among tech leaders, revealing a reliance on existing technologies through partnerships (58%) and M&A activities (44%). Additionally, nearly half (49%) are building internal solutions, while about 31% are still in the planning or early development stages.
However, not all the findings were reassuring. The survey uncovered a concerning trend, with fewer than 50% of the tech decision-makers reporting that their organizations are establishing formal AI governance policies (48%) or providing essential governance training to employees (47%). Despite this, there is a silver lining, as 60% of tech leaders are actively monitoring AI systems to ensure fairness and transparency. Additionally, more than 52% conduct regular risk assessments, with an impressive 83% expressing confidence in the reliability of unstructured data used for AI.
A Call for Thoughtful Governance
Stijn Christiaens emphasized the transformative potential of agentic AI, stating, "We must prioritize trust and establish a strong governance framework to ensure responsible AI implementation as we advance as an industry." The growth of agentic AI invites opportunities for innovation, yet it necessitates a considered approach to governance and ethics in technology.
In summary, as the landscape of data management and AI evolves, Collibra's survey reveals a strong consensus among tech leaders regarding the ROI of agentic AI, while also highlighting areas that require attention, such as governance and employee training. The future of technology is bright, but it calls for careful planning and execution to harness the full potential of AI responsibly.
