The exhibition will feature around 100 pieces primarily showcasing works recently captured in Okinawa. In 2020, Nomura moved from Tokyo, where she had previously based her artistic pursuits, back to Okinawa, her roots. Surrounded by nature, she explored themes such as the legendary Ryujin, the sea god, and the mystical realm of 'Nirai Kanai,' seen as a return home for the deceased and an ideal sanctuary. Through her lens, Nomura continues to reflect on the cycles of life and spiritual connections.

The displayed collection brings forth the profound narrative of life and death, a recurring theme in Nomura's work. It emphasizes the interplay of light, depicted vividly through Okinawa's beauty, intertwined with her artistic evolution since the late 1990s. The photos will be printed and showcased using Canon's imagePROGRAF PRO series printers.

Artist's Message

Ryugu - it is a realm illuminated not by darkness but by the serene blue of light.
At the far reaches of the Okinawan sea, I find thoughts of you.
The waves today overflow with light and return to the shore.
  • - Keiko Nomura

Nomura's work consistently encapsulates the theme of 'life and death,' not viewed as binary opposites, but as interconnected concepts. Upon relocating to her ancestral Okinawa in 2020, she deepened her expression, merging her views on life and death with the ideas surrounding 'Nirai Kanai.' Armed with the narratives of Okinawa's sea god, she endeavors to capture through 'blue' light the essence of life, death, prayer, and the layers of time etched upon the island.

This exploration of life's great circulatory patterns continues to resonate within us, quietly breathing life into our existence.
