Theme of Love and Forgiveness

In this production, the themes of "love and forgiveness" take center stage. The company members have been collaborating for over three decades, and they candidly admit that misunderstandings still arise among them, even at their age. They often question each other about various artistic choices, wonder why certain lines don’t get laughs, or reflect on uninvited outings. Despite their differences, they believe that the key to persisting as a team lies in understanding and forgiving one another. According to them, it's this spirit of leniency that allows creativity to flourish.

“A humorous villain narrative is the core of our new work,” they explain. The characters in this play will resemble lovable outlaws and endearing thieves, projecting the whimsical charm of a fictional tale. The production aims to create a fun environment where the audience can join in the laughter rather than feel like they are merely being laughed at.

Company Background

Established in 1993 by a group of alumni from Meiji University’s theater club, Animal Denki has grown to become a beloved presence in the theatrical scene. The founders, including Taishi Masaoka and Kenichi Kobayashi, moved on to perform at the prestigious Honda Theatre. Their engaging productions have gained a reputation for being humorous yet thought-provoking, appealing to audiences of all ages. Members often perform in other artistic venues, from films to television dramas, demonstrating the company’s versatility.

Throughout the years, their performances have taken on a character-driven format that keeps audiences laughing, with unique traits that make each character memorable. There’s a certain thrill when you see iconic characters like Kobayashi’s roles, reminiscent of comedic thieves; the juxtaposition of outrageous scenarios and relatable emotions creates the charm they are known for.
