Dexerials Launches New EV Bus to Connect Production Facilities and Reduce Environmental Impact

Dexerials Launches New EV Bus

Dexerials Corporation, based in Tochigi, Japan, has completed a new facility at its Kanuma plant. In conjunction with this achievement, the company plans to launch an electric vehicle (EV) bus service to transport employees between the first and second plants. Starting from early November, this initiative underscores Dexerials' commitment to sustainability and community engagement.

Innovative Design in Collaboration with Bunsan Art University

The EV bus features a unique design created with Bunsan Art University, located in Utsunomiya, Tochigi. This collaboration aims to foster a deeper understanding of the Dexerials brand among local residents and customers visiting from across Japan and abroad. The bus's design was inspired by the theme of “connections fostered by products,” visually representing the company’s core concepts and emphasizing its global leadership in various high-performance materials, such as anisotropic conductive films and optical elastic resins.

Utilizing the corporate colors of blue, orange, and sky blue, the bus design symbolizes energy, uniqueness, and the connections that Dexerials fosters within the community. The gradient patterns included in the design are meant to encapsulate the idea of connectivity.

An Eco-Friendly Step Forward

This EV bus marks a significant step in Dexerials' ongoing efforts to reduce environmental impact. Historically, the company utilized buses powered by internal combustion engines, but the construction of their new facility prompted a reevaluation of transport options in favor of cleaner, electric alternatives. While the adoption rate of EV buses is still low in Japan, these vehicles contribute to zero emissions during operation, aligning with the company’s environmental goals.

The bus operates exclusively for employees, with future plans to consider routes from nearby train stations. Running every 30 minutes between 8 AM and 6 PM, with service interruptions during lunch, the bus provides a quick, approximately 10-minute journey between facilities.

Engaging the Community

The introduction of the EV bus is not solely focused on convenience; it also aims to enhance employee engagement. The unique design creates an opportunity to strengthen ties between the company, its employees, and the local community. By making that connection visually appealing through art and design, Dexerials hopes to encourage shared experiences and promote a stronger brand presence.

The design process involved a competition among students at Bunsan Art University, resulting in a final selection led by a team of project members from Dexerials and the university. This cooperative approach to design reflects the possibility of blending academic creativity with industrial expertise, ultimately producing a product that resonates with a wider audience.

Voices from the Project

Hiyori Ohnuki, a third-year design major at Bunsan Art University, expressed excitement about how the bus design aimed to uplift and inspire positivity among those who see it. “I hope this bus becomes a bridge connecting Dexerials and the local community even more closely,” she commented, highlighting the educational value of the collaboration.

Kazuhiro Mizumoto, an associate professor at the university, noted the invaluable experience the project offered the students, illustrating the potential of combining technology and creative thinking.

Shinichi Hayashi, head of production at Dexerials, remarked on the successful partnership with Bunsan Art University, stating that the beautifully designed bus now serves as a symbol of the company’s environmental initiatives and corporate identity.

The Commitment to Sustainability

Dexerials Corporation focuses on developing and manufacturing electronic components and optical materials while striving to enhance its corporate value and sustainability efforts. The company is committed to ensuring that its endeavors not only support economic growth but also contribute to a sustainable future. The launch of the EV bus is a significant stride towards realizing that vision.

With its new EV bus, Dexerials aims not only to improve employee convenience but also to promote a culture of sustainability and community connection. By combining eco-friendliness with artistic expression, the company is set to foster a closer relationship with the people of Tochigi and beyond.
