Manulife Life Insurance Welcomes New CEO

On May 1, 2025, Manulife Life Insurance Co., headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo, will appoint Ryan Sherland as President and CEO. Sherland's appointment marks a significant milestone for the company and is expected to drive further innovation in financial solutions for clients across Japan.

Benoit Metre, the current CEO, will take on the role of CEO at Manulife Singapore starting June 1, 2025, while continuing to serve as Chairman of the Board for Manulife Life Insurance.

Ryan Sherland, who has been with Manulife for over 20 years, has accumulated a wealth of experience, especially in Asia where he spent 13 years. His leadership roles included serving as CEO in both the Philippines and Indonesia. Notably, during his tenure as CEO of Manulife Indonesia since 2019, Sherland successfully focused on market share expansion and enhancing customer satisfaction, achieving the industry-leading net promoter score.

In line with the growing demand for financial services catering to the Muslim community, Sherland led the establishment of a Sharia-compliant subsidiary in Indonesia. This innovative thinking showcases his commitment to addressing diverse customer needs.
