Clarivate Collaborates with Croatia's National Library for Unified Digital Platform

Clarivate's Pioneering Project in Croatia

Clarivate Plc (NYSE: CLVT), recognized globally for its transformative intelligence, has achieved a significant milestone. The National and University Library in Zagreb, a key institution in Croatia's cultural and academic landscape, has selected Clarivate to implement its advanced unified library services and discovery platform. This initiative marks a significant step forward for the library system across the nation.

The National and University Library, known as NSK, serves dual roles: it is the National Library of Croatia and also functions as the main library for the University of Zagreb. With a commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural and scientific heritage of Croatia, NSK aims to enhance its library services significantly through this collaboration. The implementation will utilize two of Clarivate's flagship products, Ex Libris Alma and Ex Libris Primo, to create a seamless and modern library system that integrates various library systems currently in use.

At the heart of this project lies the goal to build a unified library infrastructure that supports multiple data formats and existing systems. By consolidating resources, the NSK aims to streamline access to library materials across nine universities and 82 academic and research libraries throughout Croatia. This initiative will not only improve operational efficiency but also enhance user experience in accessing valuable educational resources.

Professor Stričević, the Director General of NSK, expressed enthusiasm about the selection of Alma and Primo, stating that these tools are integral to transforming Croatia's university library system digitally. This change is part of the e-Universities project, funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan covering 2021 to 2026. Such public investment underlines the importance of modernizing educational resources in enhancing the academic environment.

The momentum for this project is led by Dr. Dijana Machala, the Assistant Director for University Library Affairs at NSK. Dr. Machala highlighted the excitement surrounding the implementation of the Alma Network Zone, which will be critical in establishing a resilient digital infrastructure for the libraries involved. This strategic selection aims to empower a robust learning and research ecosystem in Croatia.

Yariv Kursh, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Ex Libris, reiterated Clarivate’s commitment to supporting national libraries like NSK. He emphasized that collaborations of this nature enable libraries to undertake significant transformational changes that foster discovery and learning for future generations. The partnership aims to make Croatia's diverse heritage more accessible to researchers, scholars, and the public alike.

The implementation of this unified library service is anticipated to not only enhance the immediate utility of library resources but also to set a precedent for future academic collaborations. As Clarivate continues to innovate within the library space, it stands to redefine how library services are delivered, ensuring that knowledge and cultural heritage remain within reach of all.

As part of a broader mission, Clarivate remains dedicated to enhancing the infrastructure of academic institutions globally, ensuring that researchers and students have the tools they need for effective study and discovery. The realization of this project is an exciting step forward not just for Croatia, but for the global community as libraries continue to evolve in the digital age.
