Obesity Care Week 2026 Highlights Global Commitment to Practical Solutions for Obesity Care

Obesity Care Week 2026 Concludes with Global Momentum

The Obesity Care Week (OCW) 2026 has officially come to an end, leaving behind a trail of impactful discussions and enhanced global commitment to understanding obesity and improving care for those affected. This year’s theme, “Commit to Care,” resonated with participants from various sectors, emphasizing the importance of accessible, compassionate, and evidence-based approaches to obesity treatment.

Throughout the week, healthcare professionals, advocates, community leaders, and individuals living with obesity united to share insights, experiences, and resources aimed at fostering awareness and promoting actionable strategies. They collectively highlighted that obesity is a severe, chronic disease that warrants as much attention and professional care as any other health condition.

James Zervios, Senior Vice President and COO of the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC), remarked, “Obesity Care Week 2026 has shown what’s possible when voices come together.” His sentiment reflects the essence of this week-long event, which sought to galvanize support and encourage personal and communal actions. “Even as the week ends, the work continues. Advocacy, education, and support must carry on year-round to guarantee that individuals affected by obesity are met with understanding and have access to needed care,” he added.

Obesity remains a pressing health issue, impacting over 42% of adults and 19% of youth in the U.S. Alone. Despite the alarming statistics, there exist substantial gaps in healthcare coverage, treatment options, and overall understanding of the disease. OCW 2026 reinforced the urgent call to action to close these gaps, reduce stigma, and expand access to comprehensive treatment options based on scientific evidence.

As the week wraps up, individuals are encouraged to participate in the “Commit to Care” Pledge available at ObesityCareWeek.org and to engage actively in advancing education, access, and support beyond the event’s duration. This sustained engagement is critical in transforming the landscape of obesity care and establishing a framework for continuous improvement.

The OCW effort is supported by several founding champions, including the Obesity Action Coalition, Strategies to Overcome and Prevent (STOP) Obesity Alliance, The Obesity Society, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and the Obesity Medicine Association. Additionally, more than 160 organizations championed the initiative and it received sponsorship from numerous corporations, including Eli Lilly and Company, Genentech, Regeneron, and many others.
