Online Report on Emergency Support for Kumamoto Earthquake

On July 28, a devastating earthquake struck Kumamoto, leaving many residents in desperate need of assistance. As a response, AAR Japan (Association for Aid Refugees) mobilized immediately to provide relief, including meal distribution, supply deliveries, and support for disabled persons and foreign victims.

As it has been a month since the earthquake, AAR Japan is hosting an online activity report to share insights and updates about their ongoing efforts on August 28 (Friday) from 6 PM to 7 PM JST. This event will allow participants to hear directly from staff members who have been working in the affected areas, sharing the challenges that survivors continue to face as well as the support that is still needed for rebuilding their lives.

Everyone is welcome to attend this informative session, which will give an overview of both immediate relief efforts and future needs in the wake of the disaster. To participate, attendees must register in advance as space is limited to 300 individuals on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Speakers' Profiles

Mitsuru Namatame

Mitsuru Namatame has been with AAR since 2016, initially working in the Myanmar and Tajikistan offices before returning to the Tokyo headquarters to handle domestic disaster support starting in 2017. He has been involved in emergency relief efforts for various disasters, including the Kyushu Heavy Rain (2020), the July 2023 Rain and Flooding, and the Noto Peninsula Earthquake (2024).

Kazuhiko Takeuchi

Kazuhiko Takeuchi joined AAR in 2026, focusing on supporting disaster relief in Japan and aiding refugees living in the country. He previously worked at a sister organization, Support 21, which assists people with foreign roots in becoming self-sufficient.
