Angelalign Technology Inc. Files Appeal Against Chinese Court Ruling Affecting Tooth Extraction Solutions

Angelalign Technology Inc. to Appeal Chinese Court Ruling

Angelalign Technology Inc. (stock code: 6699.HK), a prominent player in the dental technology sector, has declared its intent to appeal a recent ruling by the Jinan Intermediate People's Court in China. The court's decision ordered Angel's local subsidiaries to cease utilizing their biomechanical simulation system, known as masterForce, and the digital diagnostics and design system, ATreat, in the creation of their A7 and A7 Speed solutions for premolar extractions.

This preliminary ruling, which is applicable solely within China, is not yet enforceable, posing no immediate effects on Angelalign's customers or patients. The company has expressed confidence that the A7 extraction solutions adhere to existing patent laws, asserting that it has successfully navigated multiple patent disputes against its rival across various jurisdictions worldwide. Angelalign emphasizes its commitment to fair competition within the aligner market.

The CEO of Angel, Fox Hu, pointed out: "The court's decision is confined to China and has no direct immediate impact on our clients even in China. We are thrilled to receive growing support for our professional solutions from orthodontists globally. We are optimistic about our chances of success in this appeal against our competitor, especially given our history of winning similar cases." This optimism is bolstered by the recent dismissal of a preliminary injunction request by a local court in Düsseldorf, Germany, which sought to prevent Angel from using its A7 solution for premolar extractions. The rejection of this request has solidified Angel's standing, as the plaintiff did not contest the ruling.

Interestingly, the disputed European patent and the Chinese patent at the core of the Jinan case belong to the same patent family, adding complexity to the ongoing litigation. In June 2026, the Zhengzhou Intermediate People's Court in China also ruled in favor of Angel, dismissing all claims against it, and the plaintiff has since filed appeals against these decisions.

Angelalign has shown great respect for intellectual property rights throughout its 20-plus years of operation and prides itself on its history of innovation. Many leading orthodontists around the world consider Angel as a benchmark in addressing complex orthodontic cases, with competitors often adopting its pioneering solutions, including the angelButton™ and the A6 mandibular advancement system.

With a market capitalization of $2 billion, strong profitability, and a robust balance sheet, Angelalign has established itself as a reliable long-term partner for orthodontists, aiding them in achieving exceptional clinical outcomes. The ongoing litigation in China is part of a larger legal battle initiated by Align Technology Inc. (stock code: ALGN), which accuses Angel of patent infringement—claims that Angelalign firmly denies.

Angelalign has successfully helped create over two million smiles since its founding in 2003, providing advanced clear aligner products and services designed for dental professionals and patients worldwide. Its innovative offerings, which include the KiD braces system and the iOrtho™ digital planning platform, represent over 23 years of clinical advancement. Following its listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2021, Angelalign has begun executing its global expansion strategy and now operates in over 60 countries. The recent establishment of a 52,000 square foot manufacturing facility in the USA marks a significant step in its rapid growth in North America, offering products and services tailored for market needs.
