Enhancing GX Initiatives Through Practical Youth Training at Earth Day Tokyo 2026

Enhancing GX Initiatives: The GX Youth Lab in Earth Day Tokyo 2026

In an era where environmental sustainability is paramount, businesses are increasingly called to implement effective Green Transformation (GX) strategies. The challenge lies not only in formulating these strategies but also in executing them through skilled and knowledgeable personnel. One innovative solution is coming to the forefront in 2026: the GX Youth Lab, an initiative designed to provide young professionals and students with the practical skills needed for a successful transition to a low-carbon economy.

The Necessity of Practical Experience

As organizations grapple with greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction, a significant gap has been identified in the practical knowledge of their younger workforce. Issues such as the lack of real-world experience, unfamiliarity with data collection processes, and inadequate training in GX literacy hinder effective GHG reduction strategies. The GX Youth Lab aims to bridge this gap by fostering practical learning in a dynamic environment.

Overview of the GX Youth Lab

The GX Youth Lab takes place during Earth Day Tokyo, one of Japan’s largest environmental festivals. Spearheaded by the Japan GX Comprehensive Research Institute, the program invites young employees, as well as university students and graduate students, to participate in a hands-on decarbonization education initiative.

Through lectures and fieldwork, participants will engage in GHG emissions calculations and formulate reduction proposals — equipping them with valuable skills applicable in various sectors.

Key Program Details:

  • - Start Date: March 17
  • - Target Participants:
- Young employees from companies
- University and graduate students interested in environmental issues, decarbonization, event management, data analysis, etc.
- Limited to 10 participants, selected through evaluation.
  • - Application Deadline: March 13
  • - Cost: Free

What Participants Will Gain

1. Hands-On GX Training: Participants will learn about carbon accounting, data collection, emissions calculation, and reduction strategies, gaining insights that theoretical study cannot provide.
2. Understanding GHG Emissions and Decarbonization: Working with real data from the Earth Day event, participants will experience the practical applications of GHG accounting and reduction strategy formulation.
3. Networking with Future GX Leaders: This initiative also promotes interaction between young professionals and students, fostering connections that may drive future sustainability efforts.

The project coordinators include Youzuke Torii, President of the Japan GX Comprehensive Research Institute, and So Tujita, Founder of Earth Day Tokyo Youth. Their combined expertise will guide participants through this valuable learning experience.

The Coordinators:

Youzuke Torii: With a Master's degree from the University of Tokyo, Youzuke has extensive experience in environmental education and has been involved in various sustainability projects, focusing on corporate decarbonization strategies and industry-academia collaboration.

So Tujita: As a founder of Earth Day Tokyo Youth, So works on climate action initiatives and is passionate about the integration of technology in environmental solutions.
