TMI Associates Expands Its Reach with New Sydney Office

TMI Associates, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, has officially launched its Sydney office, marking its 15th overseas branch. This new establishment is set to reinforce the firm’s legal service framework within the Australia-Oceania region, effective September 9th, 2026.

The firm has been continuously partnering with Johnson Winter Slattery (JWS) and previously established a Sydney desk in collaboration with them back in March 2025. This desk was operational until March 2026, serving the legal needs of Japanese companies looking to expand in Australia and the Oceania region. With the launch of the Sydney office, TMI Associates aims to create a solid foundation for its activities on the ground, thus being better positioned to provide comprehensive and responsive legal services not only within Australia but also in New Zealand and beyond.

Sydney is recognized as Australia’s largest economic city and a pivotal business hub that connects the Asia-Pacific region. In recent years, investments and business activities by Japanese firms in Australia have been on the rise, particularly within the resource, energy, infrastructure, and technology sectors. At the helm of the Sydney office will be attorney Masayuki Nagai, who holds legal qualifications in both Japan and New South Wales, Australia.
