Lummus and InnoVent Join Forces for Innovative Tire Pyrolysis Technology Licensing

Collaboration between Lummus and InnoVent for Sustainable Tire Management

In an exciting development for the circular economy, Lummus Technology, a leader in process technologies, has partnered with InnoVent Renewables to tackle the pressing global issue of tire waste. On June 3, 2025, the two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at licensing and deploying InnoVent's innovative continuous tire pyrolysis technology worldwide.

Under the agreement, Lummus will become the exclusive licensor for InnoVent’s proprietary technology, which is designed to convert discarded tires into valuable products like pyrolysis oil, gas, recycled carbon black, and steel. Not only will Lummus facilitate the global reach of this technology, but it will also integrate InnoVent's pyrolysis process with its own downstream technologies, enhancing the quality and value of the resulting fuel and chemicals.

A Step Toward Sustainability
Leon de Bruyn, the President and CEO of Lummus Technology, expressed optimism about the collaboration, noting, "This is another significant step in expanding and strengthening our portfolio for the circular economy. By combining InnoVent's tire recycling technology with Lummus' global licensing and engineering expertise, we will be addressing the global challenge of waste tires and creating new pathways for sustainable product development."

Partnering with Lummus is seen as a key strategy for InnoVent to expedite the global deployment of its technology. Vibhu Sharma, CEO of InnoVent Renewables, highlighted the urgency of the issue, stating, "There are 1 billion end-of-life tires disposed of annually, which poses environmental and public health challenges. Together, we can transform waste into valuable resources, reduce carbon emissions, and support the transition to a more sustainable future."

Innovative Technology for Waste Conversion
InnoVent’s continuous pyrolysis technology offers a holistic solution for the conversion of waste tires into renewable fuels and high-value petrochemicals. This comprehensive approach includes everything from pre-processing to purification, ensuring that the lifecycle of tire waste is managed effectively. InnoVent operates a commercial facility in Monterrey, Mexico, with the capacity to process up to one million passenger tires each year, and there are plans to expand this capacity.

Lummus Technology prides itself on leading in the development of innovative technology solutions that contribute to a sustainable, low-carbon future. By licensing advanced process technologies across various sectors, including clean fuels and renewables, Lummus enables customers to enhance their operations while being environmentally responsible.

Through this partnership with InnoVent, Lummus aims to not only drive technological advancements in tire recycling but also support a broader mission of sustainability. The collaboration stands as a promising example of how industry leaders can unite to confront global challenges, reshape waste management practices, and contribute positively to the environment.
