Alteリア Joins International Undersea Cable Project Linking Japan and Singapore

Alteリア Networks Participates in the AUG East Project

Alteリア Networks, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, has recently announced its involvement in the international undersea cable project named "Asia United Gateway East (AUG East)." This significant initiative aims to connect Japan to Singapore via a route that includes Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia, in response to the escalating data traffic between countries driven by the rapid adoption of AI and cloud services.

Overview of the AUG East Project

The AUG East project represents a collaborative effort among various notable consortium members, including Microsoft and AWS from the United States, Singtel from Singapore, Chunghwa Telecom from Taiwan, Dreamline from Korea, Globe Telecom from the Philippines, Telekom Malaysia, and Unified National Networks from Brunei. NEC, a Japanese company, is responsible for the project's system design, procurement, and construction. Spanning a total distance of 8,900 kilometers, the cable is scheduled to be operational by the third quarter of 2029.

Enhancing Capacity and Resilience

The key objectives of the AUG East project include enhancing communication capacity and reducing latency between Japan and Singapore. Additionally, it aims to complement existing undersea cable systems within Asia and diversify networks to mitigate the risks associated with natural disasters, including earthquakes. There is a growing need for this diversification to strengthen digital infrastructure in the region.

The project incorporates state-of-the-art optical transmission technologies, offering bandwidth capable of simultaneously streaming millions of ultra-high-definition videos. As global communication traffic continues to surge, particularly due to the rise of AI applications, the demand for reliable and low-latency data transmission has never been more critical. The AUG East cable serves as an important infrastructure to meet this demand from both consumers and businesses seeking dependable communication avenues.

Alteリア's New Landing Station Initiative

As a consortium member, Alteリア will also play an essential role as the Japanese landing partner, constructing a new landing station and providing associated services. Once operational in the third quarter of 2029, Alteリア plans to deliver dedicated line services, known as "DynaEther," connecting major data centers between Japan and Singapore. By leveraging its expansive fiber optic network across Japan, including the Kanto region, Alteリア aims to provide low-latency and high-quality dedicated circuits to customers nationwide, reaching cities like Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka with short lead times.

This initiative marks a vital stepping stone for Alteリア, following its involvement in another international undersea cable project, the "JAKO," which links Japan and Korea, announced on June 25, 2025. The AUG East project is positioned prominently within Alteリア's five-year medium-term management plan, titled "NEXT2030," which aims to facilitate seamless connections between international communications and domestic networks, responding to the diverse needs of customers.

Future Outlook

Alteリア Networks is committed to continuing its efforts to develop next-generation communication infrastructure through partnerships with global leaders. This strategic involvement not only enhances its service offerings but also reinforces its dedication to providing high-quality communication services that meet the evolving demands of the digital age.

Alteリア Networks, founded in 1997, has leveraged its extensive fiber optic backbone and access lines to create tailor-made network environments for corporate clients. It has also established itself as a leading provider of stable, high-speed internet services within Japan's apartment complexes through its subsidiary, Tsunagu Network Communications.

With the vision of contributing to a sustainable world, Alteリア continues to transmit new pulses globally, built on a network that has been uniquely developed and refined over the years.
