25th Anniversary of the Credit Unions for Kids Golf Tournament
In a remarkable display of community spirit and generosity, the Credit Unions for Kids (CU4Kids) Northwest Classic golf tournament has just celebrated its 25th anniversary. Hosted by First Tech Federal Credit Union (First Tech), this annual event has successfully united over 28 credit unions and numerous partners to raise critical funds for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals). This year, an impressive total of $2,134,809 was raised, marking a significant milestone in the tournament's history.
Over the years, this event has flourished into one of the largest fundraisers sponsored by credit unions for pediatric health care, earning its place among the top five contributors supporting CMN Hospitals. Since its inception, the CU4Kids initiative has raised over $200 million, an amount that has been pivotal in advancing medical research and providing compassionate care for children battling health issues. These contributions have the power to enhance pediatric care capabilities, propel innovative treatment methods, and ultimately improve the quality of life for countless young patients.
In a special collaborative effort this year, First Tech and eleven other credit unions from Oregon and Southwest Washington engaged members in a month-long fundraising initiative. They launched a pop-up feature on their online banking platforms throughout June, encouraging donations. Notably, First Tech also demonstrated its commitment by double-matching employee contributions and single-matching member donations, collectively generating over $320,000 added to the campaign's total.
Greg Mitchell, President and CEO of First Tech, expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the generosity shown by employees, members, credit union leaders, and corporate sponsors. “Every year, we witness extraordinary kindness, but this year’s 25th-anniversary celebration has been particularly meaningful,” he stated. “While celebrating this significant milestone, it's inspiring to see our community rise to support sick children and their families.”
The funds raised this year will directly impact several reputable CMN Hospital partners known for their excellence in pediatric services, including:
- - Seattle Children's Hospital (Seattle, WA)
- - OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital (Portland, OR)
- - PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Children's Hospital – Riverbend (Springfield, OR)
- - UC Davis Children's Hospital (Sacramento, CA)
- - UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital – Oakland (Oakland, CA)
- - Children's Hospital Colorado (Aurora, CO)
Nick Coleman, Director of Credit Unions for Kids at CMN Hospitals, echoed the sentiments of gratitude, acknowledging the efforts of all participating credit unions. “Each year, we are amazed by the success of the CU4Kids Northwest Classic,” he noted. “The passion and commitment demonstrated by all participating credit unions are what elevate this event into a powerful force for good in the lives of children and families.”
This year’s tournament was brought to life by the unwavering support of presenting sponsors, such as EvonSys and Splash Financial, in addition to over 150 credit union partners and organizations. Among those shared in the effort were well-known entities like BECU, Columbia Credit Union, and OnPoint Community Credit Union.
Through this 25 years of continuous effort, the CU4Kids movement serves as a powerful reminder of how collaboration and commitment can change lives.
