Enhancing Private LTE/5G Device Onboarding with OneLayer and Palo Alto Networks
In an announcement made on February 26, 2025, OneLayer, a market leader in private LTE and 5G operational management and security solutions, unveiled a cutting-edge integration with Palo Alto Networks, a global leader in cybersecurity. This new collaboration is designed to tackle the challenges associated with the efficient deployment of large-scale mobile devices, streamlining processes through advanced Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP) combined with robust security management.
Addressing the Bottlenecks
Companies often face significant obstacles when deploying SIM-based devices at scale. The newly launched integration expertly merges OneLayer's extensive expertise in SIM provisioning, activation, and device management—including onboarding validation, device authentication, and authorization—with Palo Alto Networks' advanced Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) technology, known for its 5G capabilities.
With the automated Zero-Touch-Edge-Onboarding from OneLayer, organizations can experience a seamless provisioning process. Initially, the SIM profile of the NGFW is set up and activated, followed by the capturing of device fingerprints. Only after confirming the validity of the device is the Palo Alto Networks 5G-capable NGFW registered with Panorama, its centralized management platform. The system then connects to Palo Alto Networks' ZTP service, enabling the device to automatically receive configuration updates and establish a secure connection, ensuring that branch setups are thoroughly protected.
A New Era in Device Deployment
Leonid Burakovsky, Vice President of 5G Security Product Management at Palo Alto Networks, stated, "Together with OneLayer, a partner in the private 5G ecosystem, we are revolutionizing the deployment of private mobile networks by integrating an AI-driven zero-trust security approach into device onboarding, facilitating digital transformation for critical industries."
The ZTP integration not only enhances the onboarding process but also minimizes manual interventions, allowing for faster rollouts with fewer errors, accelerating returns on mobile network implementations, and streamlining network scalability. Moreover, it significantly reduces the costs associated with equipment deployment.
Avishag Daniely, Vice President of Product at OneLayer, emphasized, "Our integration ensures that businesses can manage their private mobile networks with the same rigor and efficiency as their IT networks. This solution bridges the security gap and promotes operational excellence alongside optimized management."
The NGFWs from Palo Alto Networks feature a prevention-oriented architecture that simplifies security management, while OneLayer Bridge™ provides seamless integration across network components, fostering effective zero-trust device and network management.
This groundbreaking integration will be showcased at MWC 2025. Attendees are encouraged to visit the booths of Palo Alto Networks and OneLayer to experience firsthand the vast capabilities offered by this collaboration.
