Empowering Communication: The 'Subtitles for the World' Project in Tokyo During the 2025 Deaflympics

From November 15 to December 7, 2025, the vibrant city of Tokyo will become a hub for communication accessibility as it hosts the groundbreaking project titled "Subtitles for the World". This initiative, supported by Aisin Corporation, leverages their innovative voice recognition application, YYSystem, to break down communication barriers during the Deaflympics, a premier event celebrating deaf athletes globally.

The Significance of the Project

As the Deaflympics commence, the project aims to foster an environment where communication is seamless for individuals with hearing impairments. Aisin, headquartered in Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, has decided to implement YYSystem across all venues, including the athlete's village. This initiative not only promotes inclusivity but also aims to raise awareness around the challenges faced due to hearing and language barriers in everyday life. The project aspires to encourage both locals and visitors to reflect on and engage with these vital issues, enhancing understanding and communication experiences throughout the city.

Unveiling YYMaps: A New Interactive Tool

During the event, Aisin will introduce YYMaps, an innovative application designed to help participants easily locate the designated "Waiwai Spots" equipped with YYSystem. Currently, the installation aims to exceed 100 locations across Tokyo, including cafes, hotels, beauty salons, and public transportation spots, among others. The YYMaps app is interactive, allowing users to suggest new locations for installations and submit ideas for better app utilization through the "Waiwai Requests" feature, thereby promoting active participation.

Along with this, a digital stamp rally will allow participants to collect stamps from various YYSystem-equipped spots. Gathering three stamps will entitle users to a chance to win a 500 yen QUO Pay voucher, making exploring the city both fun and rewarding.

Special Events and Collaborative Projects

The project will also feature several exciting events, including a unique initiative titled "Find the Waiwai Friends" at Meiji Park on November 22, 2025. During this special one-day event, influencers like Mari Yoshida, known for her advocacy in the deaf community, and others will be scattered throughout the park. Participants can search for these friends and engage with them; if they complete specific conditions, they will receive exclusive merchandise. This approach not only facilitates communication between individuals of different hearing backgrounds but also builds connections within the community.

Additionally, throughout the project period, there will be a call for ideas and examples using the YYSystem under the "Subtitles for the World Contest". This initiative encourages participants to share successful applications of subtitling and suggest innovative ideas that contribute to a more inclusive society. The submission window will open on November 5, culminating in a recognition event on December 7, where exciting prizes will be awarded.

The Vision Behind YYSystem

YYSystem aims to eliminate barriers in communication for individuals with hearing impairments by making sounds and voices visible. With applications that offer flexible and accessible solutions, such as real-time transcription during conversations or distinguishing important sounds like alarms, YYSystem's technology epitomizes Aisin's commitment to fostering an inclusive society. The applications are designed to be effective even in noisy environments, thereby ensuring that no one is left behind in social interactions. This initiative encapsulates Aisin's broader vision of promoting universal conversation and understanding.

In conclusion, the "Subtitles for the World" project represents a monumental step towards an inclusive future, bridging gaps in communication during a globally significant event. By integrating technology within a socially impactful framework, Aisin is setting the stage for a movement that reflects empathy, understanding, and unity within the diverse Tokyo community.
