Celebrating Summer: Nohga Hotel Kiyomizu Kyoto's Local Plum Menu

Nohga Hotel Kiyomizu Kyoto is set to launch an exclusive summer menu featuring delicious offerings created with plums harvested from the renowned Shoseien garden in Kyoto. This initiative, beginning on July 25, 2026, runs through August 9, 2026, and showcases a sustainable approach where hotel members actively participate in harvesting, processing, and offering these fruits in various culinary delights.

The hotel’s philosophy, "Recreating KYOTO - Encounter the Unconventional Kyoto," emphasizes strong community ties and aims to deliver unique experiences through the integration of music, art, and cuisine. In a collaborative venture initiated by the Ohigashi-san Monzen Future Project, hotel staff collected 35 kg of freshly-picked green plums from Shoseien on May 29, 2026. These plums will then play a crucial role in several dishes and beverages presented at the hotel's restaurant, bakery, and rooftop bar.

Within this sustainable framework, the use of pesticides has been strictly avoided, allowing the careful cultivation by skilled gardeners at Shoseien to flourish. The result is an interactive culinary experience where visitors can enjoy the vibrant flavors of Kyoto’s summer. On the menu, guests will find:

• - CICON Restaurant:

Slow-cooked Kyoto Duck with Green Plum Vinaigrette (1,320 JPY)
Tender duck breast, grilled to perfection, and topped with a salsa that includes crispy plums, served with a refreshing plum confiture.

• - CICON Bakery:

Bacon Epi with Shiso and Plum (450 JPY)
A delightful fusion of shiso and plum baked into golden bread that features a crispy exterior and chewy interior. The fragrant sesame and the mild acidity of plum combine to create a traditional taste harmony.

• - Rooftop Bar:

Yumetsubaki Cocktail (1,210 JPY)
An original cocktail incorporating plum syrup, designed to reflect the delicate beauty of camellias that bloom throughout the seasons.

Moreover, as a warm welcome to guests visiting during this period, the hotel will serve a specially crafted plum juice made from the harvested green plums, free of charge. The juice showcases the natural flavors of the fruit and will be available at the lobby area from July 25 until August 9, or until supplies last.

Additionally, a special shaved ice dessert made with plum syrup will be offered at the hotel entrance during the Gojō Wakamiya Pottery Festival on August 8-9, 2026.

Shoseien is more than just a garden; it symbolizes Kyoto’s rich seasonal diversity with its well-maintained landscapes cultivated meticulously over the years. Recognized as a national scenic spot since 1936, it is home to approximately 20 plum trees cared for by skilled gardeners of Ueyakato Landscaping Co.

This plum harvest event has been taking place since 2023 and marks the fourth consecutive participation of Nohga Hotel Kyoto, along with four other hotels in the city.
