CATL Unveils Revolutionary Batteries Paving the Way for Multi-Power Era

CATL's Groundbreaking Innovations in Battery Technology

On April 21, 2025, CATL, a prominent Chinese battery manufacturer, unveiled three revolutionary electric vehicle (EV) batteries during its inaugural Super Tech Day. These innovations include the Freevoy dual-power battery, the Naxtra sodium-ion battery, and the second-generation Shenxing ultra-fast charging battery. Together, they represent CATL's commitment to pushing the boundaries of energy technology and fostering the beginning of an era marked by multiple energy sources.

Freevoy Dual-Power Battery: Defining the Future of Energy

The Freevoy dual-power battery is designed with a cutting-edge dual-power architecture that incorporates advanced auto-forming anode technology. This architecture allows a seamless integration of two autonomous energy zones within the battery, thus offering a range of functions including double high and low voltage, double structure management, double thermal management, and dual safety protections. These features are crucial for ensuring the stability, continuity, and safety of energy production, especially in the upcoming autonomous vehicle landscape.

This next-generation battery is set to enhance the driving experience by ensuring that electric vehicles can operate effectively under a variety of conditions, optimizing energy allocation based on driving habits.

Naxtra: The Game-Changer Sodium-Ion Battery

CATL’s Naxtra battery marks a significant leap in battery technology as it is the world's first commercially produced sodium-ion battery. This means that the industry can shift away from its dependence on lithium and embrace a more sustainable resource. The Naxtra battery is designed to handle extreme temperature fluctuations ranging from -40°C to +70°C, making it suitable for diverse climate conditions.

With a usable energy density of 175 Wh/kg, the Naxtra battery stands out as one of the most efficient sodium-ion batteries available today, providing vehicles with an impressive range of approximately 500 kilometers and durability exceeding 10,000 cycles. Furthermore, CATL emphasizes safety, as the Naxtra battery incorporates materials that minimize combustion risks, distinguishing it as a leader in battery safety.

Additionally, the Naxtra 24V Integrated Start-Stop battery for heavy-duty trucks showcases unique advantages, including a lifespan of over eight years and a remarkable 61% reduction in lifetime costs compared to traditional lead-acid batteries. This product represents a shift towards greener, more efficient solutions in commercial vehicles.

Shenxing: Redefining Fast Charging Standards

CATL’s second-generation Shenxing battery continues to break charging speed records by achieving a maximum charge rate of 12C. Capable of delivering an impressive range of up to 800 kilometers, it charges from 5% to 80% in just 15 minutes even in sub-zero temperatures, making it a top contender in the market. Its ability to deliver 830 kW of power output even at minimal states of charge ensures performance reliability in demanding situations, such as rapid acceleration from a standstill.

Looking Ahead: Multi-Power Architecture

The innovative dual-power architecture not only transforms the electric vehicle sector but also sets the stage for applications across a wide variety of fields including public transportation, heavy trucks, aircraft, marine vessels, and more. This comprehensive approach signifies CATL's commitment to revolutionizing energy utilization in all sectors, accelerating the industrialization of renewable energy solutions.

In summary, CATL's recent developments in battery technology highlight its dedication to user-centered innovation, aiming to meet the diverse needs of energy consumers today. The company is not just redefining battery performance but is truly entering a new phase in energy management, paving the way for a future where energy independence and sustainability are within reach.

CATL continues to explore and expand the boundaries of technology, leading us toward an era where multiple energy sources converge to enhance user experiences and empower the next generation of electric mobility.
