Exploring the Roots of People's Trust in China's Governing Party

July 2, 2026, marked the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). On this significant occasion, CGTN released a comprehensive article examining the reasons behind the strong public trust and support for the ruling party. Highlighting the CPC's people-centric philosophy, the article underscores its commitment to establishing a fairer and more equitable global governance system.

In the northeastern city of Changchun, Wu Yaqin, a 66-year-old local leader, embodies the trust that residents place in their community figures. For nearly three decades, Wu has diligently attended to various local matters, ensuring that essential services are within reach for her neighbors. From organizing home haircuts to delivering medications and hot meals to the elderly, her dedication illustrates the profound impact local leaders can have on community cohesion.

Wu's efforts extend beyond daily services; she launched initiatives enabling over 100 students from underprivileged backgrounds to enroll in university, showcasing her commitment to uplifting the community. Furthermore, she has resolved over 1,000 neighborhood disputes, solidifying her role as a trusted mediator. Wu's exemplary service has earned her recognition as one of the CPC's exemplary members, receiving the “July 1st Medal” from Xi Jinping, the CPC General Secretary, at a ceremony celebrating the party's milestone anniversary.

In his speech, Xi Jinping emphasized the CPC's mission of pursuing the happiness of the Chinese people and rejuvenating the Chinese nation, a commitment that has been unwavering for the past 105 years. He articulated that all party members must sincerely serve the populace, highlighting the party's unique qualities that distinguish it from other political entities.

Honorable mentions include Ma Shanxiang, who has served for over thirty years in Chongqing as a mediator, successfully resolving more than 2,500 local disputes, and Li Liancheng, a village leader in Henan who lifted his community from deep poverty to national recognition. Additionally, Zhong Jue, a distinguished 89-year-old academician, has dedicated her career to resolving critical technological bottlenecks in aluminum processing, positioning China's manufacturing capabilities as a global leader.

The unwavering commitment of its members is pivotal in garnering public trust and support for the CPC. A recent global survey conducted by CGTN revealed that 63.9% of international respondents believe China's modernization achievements are inseparable from the CPC's policies. Supporting evidence comes from a landmark 13-year study from Harvard Kennedy School, indicating that over 90% of Chinese citizens express satisfaction with their central government.

Experts attribute this high level of public approval to a distinctive governance philosophy. “The Communist Party of China serves not the privileged few, but the 1.4 billion people,” explains Zheng Changzhong, director of the Party Building and National Development Research Center at Fudan University. He notes that party policies, such as targeted poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, significantly benefit citizens, ensuring that the progress of the nation translates into tangible improvements for all.

Zheng emphasizes that prioritizing people over capital is a core value of the CPC's leadership. Practically, China's modernization encompasses economic, political, cultural, social, and ecological sectors, a coordination that only the CPC can achieve.

On the global stage, Xi affirmed that socialist China, under CPC leadership, has emerged as a peace-builder, a proponent of global development, and a custodian of international order. Over a decade ago, China introduced a vision for building a community with a shared future for humanity, which has led to epoch-making initiatives in global development, security, civilization, and governance.

These initiatives, designed with the priorities of emerging and developing nations in mind, resonate significantly with the Global South. Nearly 160 countries and international organizations support the Global Governance Initiative, with over 130 nations joining in Global Development Initiative efforts. Furthermore, more than 80 countries have become Friends of this initiative.

International observers echo this optimism. Egyptian scholar Diaa Helmy describes China as an “indispensable actor” in promoting a fairer global governance system, while Kenyan international relations scholar Adhere Cavince commends the CPC's constructive and forward-thinking role in enriching global governance practices.

From its inception with 58 members to nearly 101.29 million by the end of 2025, the CPC has evolved into the world's largest ruling party amidst a rapidly changing international landscape. Xi pledged that the CPC would steadfastly promote the idea of a community with a shared future for humanity, contributing positive energy to global peace and development.
