Celebrating Aviation Excellence: Louis Pepper Receives Honor
On April 30, 2025, a remarkable event took place at the Beverly Hilton’s International Ballroom in Beverly Hills, California, where Kenn Ricci, the esteemed founder and principal of Directional Aviation Capital and chair of Flexjet, Inc., honored Louis Pepper. Pepper, a pivotal figure in the aviation industry and former CEO of Atlantic Aviation, was presented with the prestigious Living Legends of Aviation Kenn Ricci Lifetime Aviation Entrepreneur Award. This 22nd annual event celebrated the accomplishments of individuals who have profoundly impacted the aviation sector.
Louis Pepper’s journey in aviation spans an impressive 45 years, marked by significant achievements that have shaped the industry. Starting his career at Teterboro Aircraft Service, he climbed the ranks of the aviation industry and served as president of Million Air, eventually taking ownership of the Million Air Franchise Company. His significant contribution came in 2000 when he spearheaded the acquisition of Atlantic Aviation, a company that he has dedicated nearly 25 years to. Under Pepper’s leadership, Atlantic Aviation emerged as one of the largest general aviation firms in the United States, recognized for its world-class Fixed Base Operator (FBO) services, stringent safety standards, and innovative technological advancements.
Even after stepping down as CEO in 2023, Pepper's engagement with Atlantic Aviation continues as a board member, showcasing his unwavering commitment to the organization.
Kenn Ricci, a living legend himself and a previous winner of this award, emphasized Pepper's broad influence beyond just his tenure as CEO. Ricci stated, “Lou’s impact on the industry goes far beyond his role as CEO. He has cultivated a culture of top-notch customer service and invested in essential infrastructure that has significantly supported pilots and airports through critical advancements in technology.”
Louis Pepper’s remarkable achievements have placed him among an illustrious group of past recipients of the Kenn Ricci Lifetime Aviation Entrepreneur Award. Notable previous winners include Larry Mendelson, the CEO of HEICO; Dan Drohan, the founder and CEO of Solairus; and even Amazon's founder Jeff Bezos. The Living Legends of Aviation organization, founded in 2003, celebrates remarkable individuals in the aviation industry, including astronauts like Buzz Aldrin and Jim Lovell, and legendary pilots, such as Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger. The annual gala not only recognizes remarkable achievements but also serves as a significant fundraiser for the Kiddie Hawk Air Academy, a nonprofit organization focused on inspiring future generations of aviation enthusiasts.
Ricci’s announcement that the Kenn Ricci Lifetime Aviation Entrepreneur Award would be presented annually further cements the ties between Flexjet and the Living Legends of Aviation, an organization that recognizes and honors the cumulative achievements of individuals who have transformed the aviation industry. He noted, “Their spirit of innovation reflects the culture we embody at Flexjet - a culture that encourages groundbreaking ideas, advances in technology, and a commitment to redefining the future of flight.”
