Granite Telecommunications Sets Record with $3.6 Million Donation in PMC History

Granite Telecommunications Makes History at the Pan-Mass Challenge

In a remarkable display of community spirit and dedication to a noble cause, Granite Telecommunications has achieved the largest team donation in the history of the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC). Under the leadership of CEO Rob Hale, the company raised an astounding $3.6 million for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This record-setting amount was collected in memory of Bob Allen, a beloved Granite executive who passed away last December.

The fundraising efforts were led by a passionate group, affectionately named “B.A.’s Brigade.” Comprising nearly 50 Granite team members and their families, this group trained extensively on the South Shore, preparing for the grueling two-day, nearly 190-mile bike ride. The PMC holds a special place in the hearts of the participants, especially for Hale, whose father received treatment at Dana-Farber before succumbing to pancreatic cancer. The Granite community has a longstanding commitment to supporting Dana-Farber, having raised millions to promote cancer research and care over the years.

“Supporting the Pan-Mass Challenge and Dana-Farber is personal for all of us,” stated Hale. “We ride for our loved ones and colleagues, and this year, we rode for B.A. The joy of giving, and doing it together, is one of the greatest gifts we can share. I couldn’t imagine a better way to honor B.A.’s memory, and I couldn’t be more proud of our Granite team.”

Bob Allen was one of the company’s earliest hires and a passionate marathoner. He had planned to participate in the PMC for the second year in a row alongside his colleagues, expressing his excitement about training just days before his untimely passing. Following Allen’s death, Hale announced the formation of a team in his honor, sparking an enthusiastic response from teammates who were eager to make a profound impact in his memory.

The team collectively transformed their grief into a purposeful initiative, setting a bold target of $3.6 million — a figure that would shatter previous records. Just before the 2025 ride commenced, B.A.'s Brigade successfully surpassed this ambitious goal, reaching their target.

Granite's emphasis on philanthropy is a core aspect of its corporate culture. Under Rob Hale’s guidance, the company has donated over $400 million to various charitable efforts, especially in areas like cancer research, healthcare, education, and community development. Their charitable leadership has been recognized consistently, having ranked as the most philanthropic company in Massachusetts for three consecutive years.
