LINE Digital Frontier Collaborates with REDICE and KADOKAWA to Launch 'STUDIO WHITE' for Webtoons

LINE Digital Frontier Launches 'STUDIO WHITE'

LINE Digital Frontier, based in Tokyo, has recently announced the establishment of a new webtoon production studio named 'STUDIO WHITE'. This venture is a collaboration with REDICE STUDIO from South Korea and KADOKAWA, a well-known Japanese publishing company. This innovative studio aims to tap into the burgeoning webtoon market, which was estimated to be around 50 billion yen in Japan as of 2022, capturing approximately 10% of the electronic comic landscape.

As the popularity of domestic webtoons grows, STUDIO WHITE aims to bring forth exceptional storytelling through high-quality production. The studio's first major project is a spin-off of the beloved classic 'Record of Lodoss War', which originally gained fame as a light novel written by Yoshiharu Tsuge.

The Ambition behind STUDIO WHITE

The trio of companies envisions leveraging their unique strengths — with KADOKAWA's vast reservoir of intellectual properties, REDICE's expertise in webtoon production, and LINE Digital Frontier's distribution capabilities. By combining KADOKAWA's established narratives with REDICE's renowned artistic style, the aim is to produce webtoons that not only appeal locally but also resonate with a global audience through the LINE Manga platform and WEBTOON's international reach.

The first webtoon to be released by STUDIO WHITE will debut with its Korean version available on NAVER WEBTOON on May 9, 2026. The Japanese version is slated for release in the second half of 2026 on LINE Manga and ebookjapan. Additionally, translations in English, French, Mandarin Chinese, Thai, and Indonesian are also planned, broadening access for international readers.

An Incredible Legacy

Yoshiharu Tsuge, the creator of 'Record of Lodoss War', expressed his excitement:
"Having 'Record of Lodoss War' transition into the world of webtoons comes with profound emotion for me after over 30 years since its inception. This new venture will showcase untold stories set in the previously unexplored conflicts within the series. I'm eagerly anticipating how these battles will unfold through the dynamic storytelling suitable for webtoons. I hope that this new chapter will delight both long-time fans and newcomers alike."

The representatives from LINE Digital Frontier also expressed enthusiasm regarding this collaboration, emphasizing the importance of integrating KADOKAWA's oversight and REDICE's high production quality.
"We’re excited to partner with industry leaders like KADOKAWA and REDICE. Together, we aim to deliver not only stunning visuals but also content that respects the essence of legendary works while broadening their appeal on a global scale," said Jin Sing-fei, CBO of LINE Digital Frontier.

Future Prospects

STUDIO WHITE is also setting its sights on adapting other major series such as 'Sword Art Online' and 'Slayers', aiming to produce spin-offs that will capture similar magic.
Through this exciting collaboration, STUDIO WHITE hopes to contribute significantly to the webtoon market while further enriching the tapestry of global anime culture.

As the company prepares for this ambitious venture, fans are left eagerly awaiting the launch of 'Record of Lodoss War' as a webtoon, signaling the continued evolution of storytelling and media in the digital age.

With a commitment to enhancing the manga industry's development and vitality, LINE Manga promises to support and innovate within this growing segment of entertainment.
