Midea Showcases R290 Leadership and Sustainable HVAC Innovations at IFA 2026

Midea, a leader in the HVAC sector, made a significant impact at IFA 2026 held in Berlin, unveiling a diverse range of environmentally friendly heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) solutions. The company's commitment to sustainability is encapsulated in its motto, "Green Vision, Blue Future." The highlight of the event was their continued advocacy for the use of the R290 refrigerant, which boasts a remarkably low global warming potential (GWP) and supports a sustainable future.

For 16 consecutive years, Midea has spearheaded the air conditioning market as the leading manufacturer of R290 natural refrigerants. The breakthrough technology not only enhances energy efficiency by approximately 10% but also eliminates harmful substances such as PFAS, contributing to near-zero CO2 emissions. A transparent model showcased at Midea's booth allowed attendees to observe the inner workings of the technology, reinforcing how environmental responsibility aligns with performance. Since its inception in 2018, the brand has sold over 10 million R290 air conditioning units worldwide, successfully reducing carbon emissions by around 5.2 million tons of CO2 equivalent, an impact comparable to the carbon absorption of over 6 million hectares of rainforest.

Among the innovative products introduced was the H-Pack, an advanced indoor heat pump developed by Midea's European research and development team. This unit’s unique design eliminates the need for an external unit, addressing common homeowner concerns such as outdoor noise and installation space while maintaining efficiency. Its user-friendly setup makes routine maintenance effortless, and its remote diagnostics capability allows for reduced servicing costs by facilitating remote troubleshooting.

Another highly anticipated product is the PortaSplit, set in a realistic European home environment at the exhibition. Acknowledged for its easy setup and powerful performance, PortaSplit allows users to avoid tedious installation processes without sacrificing comfort. Importantly, this model is set to transition to the R290 refrigerant in 2027, further enhancing its eco-credentials.

Perhaps the standout innovation was Midea's VitaBreeze, which clinched the prestigious IFA 2026 Technology Innovation Award. This cutting-edge system leverages intelligent airflow management through its “AirGrid” technology, which maps out room configurations to optimize airflow dynamically via smartphone. With features such as occupant detection that adjusts airflow based on location and preferences, VitaBreeze promises consistent comfort throughout any space. Its Breezeless Pro technology extends airflow coverage while ensuring a draft-free experience, thereby enhancing user comfort.

VitaBreeze also includes advanced humidity control through “ClimaBalance” and an innovative energy management feature dubbed ECOMASTER 2.0, which optimizes energy use, minimizing consumption without compromising comfort.

Completing Midea's impressive lineup is Raynor Pro, a flagship heating solution meticulously designed for extreme Nordic climates, capable of operating effectively at frigid temperatures down to -40°C. This system retains full heating output at -25°C and is praised for its A+++ energy efficiency ratings for both heating and cooling. Raynor's sleek design has also earned it recognition from the iF Design Award, thanks to the creativity of Midea's Milan design team.

Furthermore, Midea introduced MHELIOS, its sophisticated home energy management solution that integrates seamlessly with residential setups. MHELIOS optimizes energy storage and usage based on fluctuating electricity prices, working in conjunction with electric vehicle chargers, heat pumps, solar systems, and battery storage to ensure maximum utility of clean energy while keeping homes comfortable.

Through these remarkable advancements—spanning sustainability, intelligent heating and cooling, and integrated energy management—Midea continues to set the standard in the HVAC industry, showing how technological innovations can harmonize environmental responsibility with modern living standards.
