Domino's and National Fire Protection Association Join Forces for Fire Safety
In a remarkable collaboration, Domino's Pizza Inc. (Nasdaq: DPZ), the world's largest pizza company, is partnering with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to spread crucial fire safety messages across the United States. This initiative not only showcases the ongoing commitment of both organizations to community safety but also marks the 19th consecutive year of their partnership.
Fire Prevention Week
During Fire Prevention Week, celebrated from October 4 to 10, participating Domino's stores will surprise customers with special deliveries. If customers have working smoke detectors, they may receive their pizzas free, courtesy of the fire department. In cases where the detectors are found to be non-operational, firefighters will step in to replace batteries or install functioning units, ensuring the safety of the household.
Maureen Pittenger, Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Domino's, highlighted the uniqueness of this initiative, stating, "Fire safety is an important message, and for 19 years, Domino's locations have found a creative way to help people internalize it. We are proud to continue our collaboration with NFPA and local fire departments to remind families that something as simple as having functional smoke detectors can make a significant difference."
Charging into Fire Safety
This year's campaign theme, "Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower," emphasizes the importance of safe charging practices for lithium-ion batteries, which are increasingly used in modern technology such as smartphones and laptops. Domino's will distribute brochures with essential safety tips to customers, promoting awareness and prevention of fire hazards associated with these devices.
NFPA Vice President of Outreach and Advocacy, Lorraine Carli, stressed the necessity of fire safety messaging, stating, "Fires pose a real threat to the population, particularly in homes where most fire fatalities in the United States occur. As modern technologies become more prevalent, so do the potential risks, highlighting the critical need for functional smoke detectors which give individuals the time they need to escape safely, regardless of the fire's cause."
Essential Smoke Detector Tips
Recognizing the risks posed by lithium-ion batteries, the NFPA has outlined essential smoke detector tips to help ensure homes are adequately protected:
1.
INSTALL: Place smoke detectors on every level of the home, including the basement, in every bedroom, and outside each separate sleeping area (like a hallway).
2.
TEST: Check smoke detectors monthly by pressing the test button.
3.
REPLACE: Replace smoke detectors once they are 10 years old or no longer function properly.
