GovTech Tokyo's Inaugural Technology Conference

On May 19, 2025, GovTech Tokyo will host the first-ever GabTech Conference, an event dedicated to addressing the past, present, and future of technology usage in administrative settings. This initiative aims to cultivate open dialogue and promote innovative solutions within the realm of public services.

In its mid-term management plan announced in October 2024, GovTech Tokyo emphasized the importance of developing in-house capabilities, a theme that will be central to this year's conference. The executive director, Manabu Miyasaka, who also serves as the Vice Governor of Tokyo, will be presenting alongside various industry experts to discuss pressing challenges that public administrations face and the crucial roles engineers play in tackling these issues. Moreover, insights regarding the much-anticipated Tokyo App, set to be detailed on April 25, 2025, will also be shared during the event.

The Tokyo App Initiative

The Tokyo App is founded on the principle of “co-creation,” inviting citizens to contribute their ideas and skills towards its development. A talk session will delve into real-world challenges encountered in the development process, providing an interactive platform for attendees to raise questions and share their perspectives. This participatory approach aims to foster collaboration between engineers, designers, and the general public, ensuring that the app meets the needs of Tokyo's residents.

The organizers are keen to engage a broad audience, particularly engineers and designers interested in socially responsible products. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and contribute their insights to the initiative.
