Dynamics Inc. Unveils Universal Public Grading Standard for Collectibles

In a significant leap for the collectibles industry, Dynamics Inc. has announced the introduction of the Universal Public Grading Standard™, marking it as the first public grading standard for collectibles. This initiative aims to bring a new era of consistency and transparency to the grading process, allowing collectors to confirm if their items are graded accurately, an aspect that has been lacking until now.

According to Jeffrey Mullen, CEO of Dynamics Inc., the lack of a public grading standard has led to a situation where inconsistency and confusion prevail, leading to mistrust among collectors. The introduction of this new standard is expected to eliminate these issues, heralding the end of what Mullen describes as the “dark ages of grading.” By providing a transparent and repeatable grading process, collectors will no longer have to rely solely on others' opinions to validate the grade of their collectibles.

Starting today, collectors can explore the Universal Public Grading Standard on The Authority, which primarily begins with comic books. The grading standard is designed to help collectors understand the grading process better by breaking it down into three crucial steps:

1. Identify the Components of the Collectible: This step involves defining the boundaries of each component of the collectible. For instance, collectors can now understand precisely where the spine of a comic book starts and where the front cover ends.

2. Identify Damage and Determine Component Grade™: Not all components of a collectible sustain the same types of damage. This phase allows collectors to identify the specific damage types and refer to the relevant damage tables to ascertain their collectible's component grade.

3. Final Grade Matrix™: After identifying the component grades, collectors can utilize the Final Grade Matrix to determine the final grade for the collectible based on its various component combinations. This matrix provides a consistent and precise grading method for each collectible.

Comic books present unique challenges when it comes to grading due to their complex structures involving multiple materials. Mullen emphasizes that the goal was not to train a select few experts but to create an easily understandable standard that anyone can use. This democratization of the grading process is a key aspect of the new standard.

The Universal Public Grading Standard will initially cover trade paperbacks and periodicals, including comics, magazines, and treasuries. In conjunction with this launch, Dynamics Inc. also operates The Authority™, an innovative e-commerce platform designed to manage the entire lifecycle of collectibles from vaulting, grading, to sales, all in real-time. This holistic approach positions The Authority as a pivotal player in the collectibles market, providing users with a one-stop solution for their collectible needs.

Dynamics Inc., based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is known for its pioneering work in security and collectible technologies. Having developed platforms that manage over 500 million collectibles since 2012, the company has established itself at the forefront of the collectibles industry. Mullen asserts that the Universal Public Grading Standard will restore the confidence that collectors have lost in grading, promoting fairness and equality in the process.
