CHOSA Oncology Partners with CLIA-Certified Lab to Launch Platin-DRP® in the U.S. by 2027

CHOSA Oncology's Strategic Move in Lung Cancer Treatment

In a landmark development, CHOSA Oncology AB has officially entered into a collaborative agreement with a CLIA-certified laboratory in the United States. This partnership aims to develop and validate Platin-DRP®, a critical laboratory-developed test (LDT) tailored for the U.S. market, with the first revenue anticipated as early as the summer of 2027. This milestone is not just a step forward for CHOSA; it represents a significant advancement for patients battling lung cancer.

Understanding Platin-DRP®

Platin-DRP® is an innovative biomarker designed to forecast how well a patient will respond to platinum-based chemotherapy, such as cisplatin or carboplatin. Historically, platinum drugs have been heavily relied upon in the treatment of lung cancer. However, due to variability in patient responses, there is a pressing need to identify those who are most likely to benefit from this treatment while avoiding unnecessary toxicity for others.

The goal of Platin-DRP® is to usher in a new era of personalized medicine, catering specifically to the diverse needs of lung cancer patients. Each year, over a million individuals are treated with platinum-based chemotherapies, highlighting the gap that Platin-DRP intends to fill by pinpointing suitable candidates for these treatments.

The Role of CLIA Certification

The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certification provides a well-established regulatory framework that many diagnostic laboratories in the U.S. adhere to. By forming this partnership with a CLIA-certified laboratory, CHOSA is strategically positioning itself to successfully commercialize the Platin-DRP® test in the United States. This collaboration will facilitate the extensive development, validation, and quality control necessary for the clinical introduction of this cutting-edge tool.

The agreement outlines that the laboratory partner will be responsible for a range of services aimed at preparing Platin-DRP® for clinical usage. This includes ensuring the test meets the analytical performance standards and regulatory requirements mandated by CLIA.

Positive Outcomes from Clinical Studies

The groundwork for this project builds on promising results witnessed during the ETOP/EORTC SPLENDOUR trial. In this Phase III clinical study, 82 patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were treated with cisplatin or carboplatin. The results showcased a statistically significant correlation between elevated Platin-DRP® scores and improved progression-free and overall survival rates. Specifically, patients in the high-score category enjoyed a median overall survival of 16.9 months, in stark contrast to just 5.5 months for those at the lower end of the scoring spectrum.

This data is instrumental in reinforcing the foundational hypothesis of the Platin-DRP® test, bringing hope for enhanced treatment decision-making that is more data-driven and personalized.

Future Plans: Chemo-Immunotherapy Studies

In addition to its partnership with the CLIA-certified laboratory, CHOSA is simultaneously undertaking a retrospective study in collaboration with Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. This study will evaluate the efficacy of Platin-DRP® in patients receiving platinum-based chemotherapy in conjunction with PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy. The results of this study will aim to extend the clinical validation of Platin-DRP® within modern cancer treatment frameworks.

Recently, CHOSA received 94 tumor biopsy samples from patients based in the U.S. for this comprehensive evaluation. By employing gene-expression analysis, the researchers will calculate individualized Platin-DRP® scores, simultaneously assessing their correlation with survival outcomes.

Outlook and Industry Impact

The forecasted market potential for Platin-DRP® tests in the U.S. stands at more than 250,000 tests per year, with initial sales projected to range between 300 to 500 tests in the first year post-launch. CHOSA's CEO, Peter Buhl Jensen, emphasizes this partnership as pivotal in their journey towards making Platin-DRP® available to affected patients.

As the landscape of lung cancer treatment evolves, with the integration of immunotherapy alongside traditional therapies, CHOSA's commitment to advancing the clinical evidence around Platin-DRP® and establishing a robust laboratory framework signals a bright future for personalized cancer treatment. With the hope of improving patient outcomes, this initiative is set to alter the traditional paradigms of lung cancer therapy for years to come.

In conclusion, the partnership between CHOSA Oncology and the CLIA-certified laboratory not only marks a significant development for the Platin-DRP® test but also underscores the potential of personalized medicine in transforming patient care in oncology.
