In an inspiring keynote speech titled "Triple Leaps to AI UBB Inspiring New Business Growth," James Chen, President of Huawei's Carrier Division, outlined groundbreaking advancements at the 11th Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) 2025. He revealed how operators can harness artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance their ultra-broadband (UBB) offerings and spur fresh business growth.

Chen emphasized that telecom operators have made remarkable strides in depth, width, and height in the pursuit of fostering new growth in the AI-driven UBB landscape. According to him, these advancements create substantial business opportunities. "Cutting-edge innovations lead to significant business successes," he declared, urging operators to seize the moment to provoke new growth.

A Leap Forward in Depth


One of the focal points of Chen’s address was the transition from bandwidth-based monetization to experience-based monetization. Operators are now utilizing AI capabilities within their networks that allow for precise detection of where application experience improvements are essential. This proactive approach enhances user experiences in key applications such as AI-powered cloud gaming and 4K live streaming.

For instance, a prominent Thai operator successfully implemented Huawei’s AI WAN solution to develop new application-level experience guarantee features, resulting in a seamless gaming experience that significantly improved their average revenue per user (ARPU).

Broadening Business Horizons


Continually evolving, operators are expanding their business frameworks to encompass digital intelligence and data processing services. With over a billion global home gateways now in operation, these companies are transitioning from traditional home network providers to smart home service providers. Huawei recently launched the AI Homehub, which a telecom operator utilized to offer smart home services, increasing the ARPU of home services by 60%.

In the small to medium enterprise (SME) market, operators are leveraging Fiber to the Office (FTTO) solutions to establish integrated management platforms that deliver standardized digital and intelligent services, such as IoT and video services, facilitating a smarter transformation for businesses. Major Chinese operators have already extendedFTTO solutions to over 2 million users.

Moreover, in the mid to large enterprise market, operators utilize integrated detection and communication systems based on Wi-Fi to develop new growth tools. For example, some operators applied these technologies within senior care facilities for fall detection and intelligent meeting room management. In the UAE, one operator employed Huawei’s AirEngine Wi-Fi 7 for Wi-Fi-as-a-Service, achieving a 67% reduction in total cost of ownership for their meeting room detection system.

As businesses increasingly move toward cloud computing, they require local data processing, which calls for networks that support new functionalities like lossless transmission, elasticity, and security. This presents networking service opportunities for operators. Huawei collaborated with China Telecom Shanghai to develop a highly efficient intelligent WAN, which enables clients to expand processing capacity within weeks while ensuring a processing loss rate below 5%.

Advancing Operational Heights


Lastly, Chen discussed the transformation of network operations from labor-intensive orders to smart-driven operations. He highlighted Huawei’s collaboration with MasOrange in Spain to realize Europe’s first Level 4 autonomous IP network. Leveraging iMaster NCE, the operator managed to decrease the mean time to repair (MTTR), thus increasing customer satisfaction.

In conclusion, Chen stated that the era of AI-driven UBB has only just begun, and Huawei is eager to collaborate with operators and industry partners to continue innovating. "We aim to assist operators in thriving through experience monetization, a new growth curve, and cost reduction in operational expenses," he affirmed, echoing the potential of AI in redefining business models in the telecommunications sector.
