Kai Nissan Group Introduces WHILL Mobility Innovation
In a groundbreaking move for the Koshinetsu region, the Kai Nissan Group has announced the introduction of WHILL mobility solutions in Yamanashi Prefecture. Starting September 15, 2025, Kai Nissan and its subsidiary, Rental Gear Yamanashi, will offer the innovative WHILL units for both sale and rent. This initiative aims to provide an accessible and comfortable means of transportation for all, with no license or helmet required for users.
The WHILL units will be available in four different models, catering to various mobility needs. These include:
- - Model R and Model S: Scooter-style designs with robust performance.
- - Model C2 and Model F: Chair-style configurations that allow for exceptional maneuverability and comfort, featuring a compact folding design for easy transport.
This initiative responds to increasing demands for versatile transportation solutions, especially as Japan faces a rapidly aging population, projected to comprise nearly 30% of the total population by 2024. The rise in inbound tourism and the need to accommodate diverse mobility users enhances the urgency for accessible transportation options. The team at Kai Nissan emphasizes an inclusive approach that prioritizes smooth mobility irrespective of age, nationality, or physical condition.
Addressing Transportation Challenges
The collaboration between Kai Nissan, Rental Gear Yamanashi, and WHILL is particularly vital in regions like Yamanashi, where the local demographic is shifting towards an older population, creating new transportation challenges post-license relinquishment. With tourist spending rising to an estimated 317.5 billion yen, enhanced mobility options will support not only the local community's needs but also tourists wanting to enjoy Yamanashi's unique attractions at their own pace.
To facilitate a seamless transition to this new mode of transport, Kai Nissan will set up WHILL units at seven locations across the prefecture including major dealerships in Kofu, and offer comprehensive after-sale services including test rides and consultations.
Everyday and Exceptional Mobility
Starting in September 2025, the rental service at Nissan Rent-A-Car Kofu Station will allow individuals to borrow WHILL Model F units for a daily fee of 4,000 yen, making it easy for customers to engage in tourism without worrying about regular vehicle rentals. Specific requirements, such as a maximum weight of 115 kg and the ability to use the device safely, will ensure user safety and comfort.
As outdoor enthusiasts often seek the freedom to explore scenic routes without constraints, WHILL addresses these needs, promoting a new culture of mobility where convenience and accessibility are prioritized. Whether it's for a casual stroll in local parks or navigating through crowded tourist spots, WHILL empowers users to enjoy their environment fully.
A Unified Vision for the Future
The partnership between these three organizations aims to enrich community life and boost local economies by ensuring that everyone has access to effective transport. By uniting expertise in mobility solutions, vehicle sales, and rental services, Kai Nissan, Rental Gear Yamanashi, and WHILL are paving the way for a progressive and inclusive transportation culture that enhances the quality of life in Yamanashi.
In summary, the Kai Nissan Group’s commitment to fostering an accessible mobility landscape not only meets the demand for streamlined transportation but also embodies a forward-thinking response to the social changes shaping Japan today. The WHILL mission aligns seamlessly with these values, aiming to create a world where everyone can enjoy free and active lifestyles, unhindered by mobility challenges.
